For the sports I think China will let them be independent for long long time to come, beyond the 50-year transition time in the case of HKSAR (don't remember the Macau's case), perhaps something like Scotland, Wales to the GB.
In exact the number of participants are 134 members of Federation, and TV broadcast to 169 members of Federation, a new record for table tennis event. Quoted from the opening speech of Thomas Weikert, the president of ITTF (seems this guy is more positive than his predecessor, Adham Sharara). QOROS 2015 WTTC, Opening Ceremony and draw: http://cdn.laola1.tv/ittf/iframe/menu_1.html# And ITTF has live streaming up to eight tables simultaneously, with viewable quality - http://www.ittf.com/ittv/ Not satisfied? There are plenty of regular providers of TT videos in HD quality in youtube (janus770 et al). Well, for those sports that are not flooded with the $$$ and be in the inner circle of the established media [i.e. those select few that are dominating the TV broadcast and global media coverage out of proportion], I can't complain anything regarding the ITTF's global coverage on its [major] tournaments I am merely a happy viewer
Just saying those numbers never reflect reality (in terms of tv broadcast) / they sound a lot more impressive than they are . And live tv is really the only thing that counts ... But at least ITTF have somewhat regular slots on Eurosport, something BWF still hasn't managed to do even with the favourable timeslots of tournaments played in Asia. I think Eurosport counted for about 40 of the countries , well there has only been a few hours of broadcast so far and nothing at all today (saturday).
Eight matches to be live streamed simultaneously are unbeatable feat TV live broadcast is really cool for its higher quality and smooth display but TV can only broadcast one match at a time. What's really the excellent feat from ITTF is its capability to live stream EIGHT matches SIMULTANEOUSLY at viewable quality (360p). In earlier rounds up to R32 there are 16 matches to be played at once, eight matches at R16, four matches at R8 but ONLY ONE match at a time in the semifinals [and of course in the finals]. The many choices available to viewer's discretion to pick up the match to watch is an unbeatable treat to the worldwide audience (everyone gets his own taste), and they even don't need to have a high-speed internet connection or even the less available subscribed sport channel [which does not come at free but at a relatively substantial fee] to be able to enjoy it, esp. in the worldwide context and not just the advanced economies! TV live broadcast is definitely great for covering the semifinals and finals whereas just one match to be played out at one time, though I don't think such broadcast will cover ALL the matches as done by the live streaming btw the entire 2015 WTTC in Suzhou (held within eight days from 26 Apr till 03 May) carries more than 1,000 matches, which is an amazing number per se. Note: and many times the live streaming, even in the earlier rounds, would carry the identical coverages as the TV broadcasts, e.g. when Japanese station broadcasted their players' matches so viewers would enjoy more cameras and viewing angles, not just the more inferior static camera. Even the more static camera deployed by ITTF in earlier rounds still has better viewing quality than the BWF's equivalence but perhaps this is due to the smaller coverage area (table vs court size). One thing that BWF may adopt rather easily from ITTF is playing out the semifinal matches one after another so none to be missed out and all matches can be watched in totality.
Shenzhen would be great. Dongguan is also a possibility, since it is where the Li Yongbo School of Badminton is located.
When Shenzhen hosted the SS Finals, did you go to any games? The organizer was deeply disappointed with the turn-out, even with many free tickets. I don't think there is any interest in hosting a lower tier tournament.
