We have to accept that we don't have enough critical information to find out what exactly happened. We don't know fully what have been done and what have not been done by the medical staff. As far as I understand LCW's is looked after by NSI/BAM who worked closely with the specialist who gave the injection. So, LCW is rich but he doesn't have to find a personal doctor. LCW could have signed the consent which meant he accepted the treatment on the basis that the dexamethasone was out of his body in two weeks which is perfectly ok to participate WC in a month time. The question now is who should be responsible for the presence for the drug 6 weeks down the line. I hope you can understand better now. Some time thing is not as black and white as you think. .
Samples are not just discarded right away. Techniques may improve a few years down the road to detect previously unkown/undetectable substances ... They also don't deteriorate overnight as they are stored in deep-freeze . The two week appeal is probably when tested positive ... on a specific A sample. Samples taken at Olympic Games are even stored for up to ten years! (none OG for up to eight years)
Yep, the samples are frozen, so they can retest in the future. And yes, BWF and BAM do want to retest Aug 15. As part of the mitigation process. This was already mentioned in some news reports. They are still scratching their heads wondering the why and when of this dexa presence in the Aug 30 A and B tests, so they want as much info as possible.
And BAM had assumed that there was no dexa present in his system in Aug based on this Aug 15 negative result, so they didn't apply for TUE. But what they didn't realize is wada didn't test for dexamethasone in Aug 15 because it was out of competition at that time and and WADA doesn't test for out of competition meds that are allowed such as dexa. (But then I don't fully understand about the wada prohibition of intramuscular injection steroids such as dexa, even in out of competition period. If this is true, then BAM and LCW are in deep doo doo, because this is most likely the route of administration of dexa in those stem cell treatments.)
The plot thickens : Razif claims Chong Wei using banned substance for a long time Former national shuttler Razif Sidek alleges that many badminton officers within the Badminton Association Malaysia are aware that Datuk Lee Chong Wei has been using for a long time the banned substance. — AFP file pic KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11, 2014: Former national shuttler Razif Sidek claimed that world No. 1 Datuk Lee Chong Wei has been using for a long time the banned substance like the one he was reported to have tested positive for in the recent doping scandal. Razif made this claim via Malay daily Kosmo! where he alleged that many badminton officers within the Badminton Association Malaysia (BAM) were aware of what Chong Wei was doing. He also alleged that Chong Wei had hired a foreign doctor for that purpose. However, Razif claimed that no one dared to say anything due to Chong Wei’s credibility as a world badminton champion. “Before this, it was hard to say anything because there was no concrete proof. But now he is caught. I don’t want to make accusations, but this has been going on for a while,” Razif claimed. “Senior players and officers knew about this. In fact, the junior players had gotten wind of it, but they realise that this athlete is a national hero. “I was made to understand that he has been using this drug and had even hired a doctor to come here (Malaysia) just so he can use the banned substance. “Haven’t I said it before (about Chong Wei being mixed up in the use of banned substance)? I am not one to make blind accusations. But this information has been made known by several individuals in the association,” Razif claimed, as quoted by Kosmo! Meanwhile, national single’s badminton coach Rashid Sidek pledged full support to Chong Wei, offering to give a statement to the Badminton World Federation’s hearing committee panel. Rashid is also confident of Chong Wei’s innocence because, according to him, the world No. 1 player has always stuck to the principle of there are no short cuts to success. Chong Wei has been suspended temporarily after the B sample of his doping test came back positive for banned substance dexamethasone. Re-testing of samples According to Article 6.5 in the World Anti-Doping Code samples may be re-tested later. Samples from high-profile events, such as the Olympic Games, are now re-tested up to eight years later to take advantage of new techniques for detecting banned substances http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doping_in_sport So there had been pressure on the IOC to go back and test these samples from Athens, for awhile. There's an eight-year statute of limitations, and they were a little slow to react. http://www.npr.org/2012/08/14/158791576/doping-can-catch-up-to-olympians-eight-years-later
isn't him the one got fired by BAM? ermm, talking about stabbing someone in the back! and since when MAS has a world badminton champion? ps oops he is not, the other Sidek
Harian Metro has reported this much earlier, 2 weeks ago, when sample A tested positive. Strangely, there has been no further comments from Razif, either to back up his claim or otherwise. There was a follow up interview with the other retired badminton players saying -'Nonsense, no such thing, if he know, show the proof'. This includes, the other SIdek bro, Jailani
Of course, LCW uses glucocortico steroids such as dexamethasone or methylprednisolone! These are anti inflammatory meds taken by all athletes at some point or other in their out of competition period as they recover from overuse injuries such as tendinitis, etc. This is allowed by WADA! Even you and me can get these steroid injections from your doctor! Rashid and the media is truly ignorant if they don't understand the difference in different steroids.
shooting stroke said this at post #11015 shooting stroke, can you expand on this a little?
honestly with today technology & malaysia lack of resources, i really doubt datuklee can avoid being detected from illegal substances for so long. if it was atheltes from advance country like USA, China or Russia, i belib they have the technology to avoid detection. But Malaysia... I really doubt so, further more, Datuklee's Earning is not enuff for him to hire the best out there.
C'mon fellas, please understand the big difference in glucocortico vs mineralocortico steroids. The former is for anti-inflammatory use such as asthma, eczema, tendinitis, arthritis, eyes and nose allergies, anaphylaxis, auto immune diseases etc. They are used in general medicine on everyone and athletes alike for such purposes! And athletes are allowed to use it in the out of competition period! Mineralocortico steroids on the other hand, these are the anabolic steroids that build muscles, these are completely illegal in or out of competition. Understand?
Haha, we sure know how things in Msia work Other than that, LCW are really doping long term, ages ago he would have won OG gold and WC,no need work so hard like he did.
THE Sports Ministry will consider banning private clinic referrals for national athletes to treat their injuries following the dope scandal involving World No 1 Lee Chong Wei. Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said a review was in the works to avoid incidences similar to the one that has affected the shuttler. He said the proposal was part of an impending revamp of current procedures following the finding of the banned substance dexamethasone, allegedly administered by a private doctor, in Chong Wei’s ‘A’ and ‘B’ urine samples. Chong Wei’s urine sample was tested after his semi-final win over Viktor Axelsen in the World Championships in Copenhagen in August. He was made known of the result of the ‘A’ sample on Oct 2. “It is not uncommon to have private referrals but since this cropped up, we are looking into the procedures involved,” said Khairy after witnessing a MoU signing ceremony between the National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) and several companies in Putrajaya yesterday. On Sunday, Khairy confirmed that dexamethasone was not administered by the National Sports Institute (NSI), but by a private doctor referred by the NSI to the three-time All England champion for specialist treatment. He explained that the drug was commonly administered in the treatment of sports injuries and that Chong Wei was referred to the private clinic in Kuala Lumpur for stem cell therapy to treat a thigh injury. On the impending Badminton World Federation (BWF) hearing, Khairy said the ministry is expediting the collection of information from concerned parties to present a strong case for the athlete’s defence. BWF, when contacted, said a statement would be issued within 24 hours regarding Chong Wei’s hearing. Meanwhile, a representative of the medical centre, where the shuttler was referred for stem cell treatment, declined comment, stating that the media should refer to NSI chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz for statements. http://www.nst.com.my/node/51663
