Well..his image as a role model speaks volume.. ..i guess that's been USA Swimming's main reason for their decision. Their main reason, as quipped from an online media source: The USA Swimming's statement reads: 'USA Swimming has reprimanded Michael Phelps under its Code of Conduct by withdrawing financial support and the eligibility to compete for a period of three months effective today, February 5, 2009. 'This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero." Image=role model=young kids looking up to him... As far as sponsorship goes, so far only Kellogg's has cancelled & not renewed their contract with him. On the other hand, IOC, FINA and a host of other sponsors have backed him & stayed loyal with him. Personally, i don't really care. But 3 months isn't that bad, considering he also had a prior probation for drunk-driving in 2004. As for the 3 questions above, the simple answer for each is "no".
Nice to know that I'm not alone in viewing this as what it really is, a problem primarily of image rather than an issue with a person's morality. To me the most important thing is to send this message to the public, especially for the youngsters: and not: The latter eclipses what made people adore him in the first place - a top class, extraordinary sportsman who broke records and brought glory to his country's sporting traditions; he becomes merely 'the guy who took drugs'.
He is honourable enough to come forward, and admitted into it. Jones and Phelps' wrongdoings cannot be amended, but they act as a normal human. To do err. And to be able to step forward and face the consequences, they are undoubtly are more noble than those who dare not to. Yes.Wilfred.They are commited phelps into his wrongdoing because the use of drugs is wrong,.Phelps, however, still one of the greatest swimmers.
More twist to the news.. ..apparently the local authorities are looking into pressing charges against Phelps and they have been rounding & arresting some of the other individuals involved. It sounds like, those individuals might have some kind of a witch-hunt against Mr. Phelps. I mean, really, if they took that photograph and knew it's going to be a scandal, shouldn't they hold back from exposing the pic??... http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/6259898.html *wilfredlgf, as they say, "They higher you are, the harder you'll fall"?? or something like that. I guess Phelps' stigma is like a double-edge sword. After he won the 8 OG medals, he literally has zero wiggle room for any mistake. Btw, i'm sure there are others who have the same opinion as you. Just that they probably couldn't care less to comment.
Really Lin Dan punched his coach? :O. I am starting to not like Lin Dan - due to his "cocky" attitudes.
