That is, from behind the back line (maybe 2nd line for women/amateurs) and can be as high as you want. I think it will make the game simpler with no service judge and encourage beginners to move and learn clears/smash properly. I see so many early beginners playing each other barely breaking a sweat because they don't hit hard and don't chase after the shuttlecock. At least if you start at the back you'll need that initial run to the front and will be forced to hit with some power.
Yup. I suggested service from the rear tramlines (or behind) a while back but was er...kind of laughed at. Serving from the back you could smash, drop or drive (or clear if the length of the court is 'in'. It would give the serving side some advantage, unlike the pussycat serve as it stands, and would make serving far more interesting to watch.
How about like table tennis serve? I'd eliminate the flick serve and make it illegal. Then every serve could be attacked and it'd be more interesting.
