My first decent racket was Silver Grey followed by the Yoneyama 8000 Alumina Hi Power. It is somewhere around but the grip is dead and the strings are shot. This was before the name was changed to Yonex so this racket is real old -- bought around 1975. I then had a Carlton 3.7X, with Bow ALl-Weather Guts which was a great smashing racket but a bad backhand (for me) racket. I then moved on to Yonex 8300 or the original Carbonex 7 with the carbon coated shaft on an aluminium frame. I then got several Carbonex 8 (2 red and 1 blue) which I still have. I got a Carbonex 9 but that bit the dust together with the Carbonex 7. I have an old Carbonex 20 (circa 86), and relatively new Carbonex 25. I just got a MP77 and MP 55 which I have not used yet as badminton season has not started. I also restrung all my rackets but 1 Carbonex 8. Two carbonex 8's and Carbonex 20 have BG66 and the MP's and Carbonex 25 have BG 68TI. Looking at the old rackets reminds me of the good old days when I was faster and did not hurt after playing badminton. Ron
Vintage Yonex Rackets This is so weird! I just found this site today - the same day I have just had my 29 year old Yonex B-9100 restrung for old-times sake! I can't wait to have a game with it again. It's in mint condition and I loved this racket dearly - It has great sentimental value to me as I won the Warwickshire U16 singles Championship with it back in 1976. Happy days. Raised a few eyebrows and gathered a small crowd of onlookers in the racket shop! Most asking; "what the hell is that?!" Any other UK veterans out there? If you want to see a pic of this old beauty - mail me and I will send.
yes, cab9 shaft was thicker. Back then, only 1 grade of graphite available. To make it stiffer, yonex just add more layers of graphite.
My 1st raquets was an all steel yoneyama my mom bought me from a corner/general store back in Indonesia. It was in mid 90s...and u could buy just one birdie from the corner store and we use it till most of the feathers are gone before throwing it out...my second one was a yaya all steel too, I bent it...lol must be a chinese stuffs
if anyone here is a tennis fan, here is a nice collector item for them. a yonex carbonex, mint. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...50026740970&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1
My dad's got a 25 year old Yonex B4000 Steel Shaft Racquet, in good condition. I still use it for play today, as it is around the same weight as the carbon graphite Yonex Muscle Power 3 racquet I use. The only difference is there is a slightly higher air resistance, and it has an oval head instead.
wow...just wonder how many year u guys been play badminton.. and is another one will love to take some photo with their baby? cant wait to see how they are look like 0.0
My friend's vintage rackets are as followings: 3.7X and 3.7S Yonex No.8000 Yonex B-8100 Yoneyama No.2000 and No.3000
I have a Yonex Blacken before and god.... i love that racket so much! It was so nice, all black and ominous looking.
Let me post it here ... Amazing how often you find something you were looking for when you're not looking for it
Thanks man, certain stirred up some memories. My first YY was the 8200. I then switched to Pro-Kennex and then the Cab15. I still miss the Cab15.
I've only played with B-8100 and Cab-9 gold out of these. Well Cab20 as well but never owned. Hoping some brochure with at least Cab 21 will show up ... (from others, this is all I remember having. Maybe some old magazines from the federation but don't think anyone has kept them) Here's all the text printed on the racquets: Cab 20 "All carbon graphite shaft" Cab 15 "Lazer quick recovery and top flex for power play" (frame) "Minimum torque for ??? and accurate control" (frame) "All carbon graphite racquet" (shaft) Cab10, 9, 8. "Full carbon shaft" Cab7 "Carbon coated shaft" < "Stainless shaft"
Just bumped into this which is just like what the above is as well only better since it includes specs . http://jaders.blog.163.com/blog/static/34832963200853063915334/
Good to know . Maybe he can scan the whole thing although I don't see a staple in it so probably not as many pages ...
Good old days I use to play, back in the 80/90's with Carlton 3,7X - tremendous power racket. Later use a Blacken (Yonex B8100), my brother use Carbonex 8 ( I tied them but for me lack Power, but superb backand). The racket of my heart was a Pro-Kennex B-708, i have them today, a perfect racquet with ultra low balance point ( wheight of 100 plus grams), with good smash power and good defense and backhand. pictures of original catalog.
Thanks for adding Correia . Not exactly Yonex but a well known brand as well. Maybe you should start a blog website with your collection, perhaps more will read about it and maybe have something to add. Wondering if the folks here can scan their older Yonex Japan catalogues . Read a few posts about 2004 JP catalogues and would imagine the in between period should be covered as well. Some PDF versions of the last couple of years would be nice as well 2006 should be interesting with the Thomas/Uber Cup wear
