Kashyap got abdominal pain. So, he retired in order to prevent from further damage.

Porntip is anything but an easy opponent for Soldier Schenk. I won't be surprised Porntip prevails. IMHO,she must not be too eager to attack or impatient to finish the opponent off, brilliant one moment and erratic the next.

I think it's more of a coincidence that this HK Open has so many injuries, walkovers and retirements. I tend to think the players are stressed out by too many SS tourneys, the calendar is overcrowded, what with national and regional championships thrown in, badminton leagues (CBSL,Axiata Cup, IBL coming up), and team events.

At the very least, have a 3-month lull period after the Olympics, even an employee gets annual leave, the more so for these players who train 6 days a week throughout the year apart from competing. Not to mention the tough training regime, the almost regimented lifestyle for many. Everybody needs a break at least once a year,it may do wonders.

It really takes a lot of self-discipline,sacrifices and passion for the sport to keep going for 8 to 12 years, the typical lifespan of a professional player. Even so unforeseen circumstances and unexpected events, including happy ones like marriage, can and do occur.
