Good to see Tian Houwei playing at a high pace. He duly takes G1, 21-14.

The way LXR is playing, she lacks energy and motivation. I won't be surprised if she faces an upset. Losing two biggies in the finals, after obliterating the opponent in the first game, and yet losing unexpectedly in both, seems to have taken a toll.

Houwei is pretty convincing over Sugiarto. I'm not really surprised.

    14-21, 14-21. Houwei wins comfortably.

I have to say , among WS, LXR has got a pretty good backhand, she can clear, drop-shot, smash with it almost as good as her forehand.

Damn. Ueda rolled in the second game 21-10. Tien Minh Nguyen moves forward.

I'm probably going to take a break and perhaps try to catch the Axelsen v Chen Long game later on. Happy viewing, everyone.

Tian Houwei plays fast, moves fast, attacks and defends well, on the whole more proactive and aggressive than I've seen him before - just count the number of outright jump-smash winners he scored from the backline. Hope to see him maintain such high-intensity level throughout the tournament successfully.

The last time I saw Nguyen TM he was all-guns blazing, firing on all cylinders against Lee CW and nearly caused a huge upset on his illustrious opponent. Maybe that's how he dealt with Takuma Ueda, esp in G2; not sure, just hazard a guess as no livestream for Ct 4.

Here's come a very interesting MS match. WZM vs Rumbaka, the 2 hardest smashers in the game.

Consistency is key if Tian HW is to break into the top 10 or higher and stay there long.

He's very inconsistent. But beating Sugiarto is a very good result.

Service faults in singles is , imho, a grey area, more subjective than in doubles.

Indeed, he played really well against Lee CW at AG quarterfinal and he's already book R/16 slot.

After stunned Sugiarto, another stern test is waiting him tomorrow, Nguyen TM. How far can he go here with two big guns (Lee CW & Tago) had withdrawn from top half of draw, we'll see...
