All England that usually synonymous with the oldest and charismatic badminton tournament that contains starry cast is rolling again, one of few BWF Tours who keeping its existence amid pandemic era…
It seems an uphill task for the Japanese to replicate last year big win when many top players took absence and the Indonesians had unpleasant episode in 2021 edition.

Fresh faces topped MS podium in every edition since 2018 as two foremost leading men Lin Dan & Lee Chong Wei had dominated the winner list prior the rebranded BWF World Tour era. And none could reproduced the victory since then to illustrate the gap between one to another player only separated by thin line, intriguing moment to wait whether Momota, Axelsen or defending champ Lee Zii Jia can do it this week or another new champion emerge in this most competitive discipline. Axelsen is the frontrunner based one his stable performance, drawing path and excellent record to cruise into three consecutive finals here (2019, 2020, 2021).

Other possible contenders is reigning World Champion Loh Kean Yew who make AE debut this time, the Singaporean sensational feat in last quarter of 2021 but inconsistency problem hanging out there after won historical gold medal in Huelva and he's faced severe test to progress, Anders Antonsen who also craves to lift the coveted trophy. Indonesia has modest prospect through their Thomas Cup heroes who have poor All England record and exacerbated by Christie tested positive of COVID-19 last week. Badminton giant China coming to Birmingham, represented by unsteady players who pursue elusive breakthrough against high-profile players following the absence of semi-retired Chen Long and the suspended 2018 winner Shi YQ. Don’t rule out the ambitious and well developed teenagers, Vitidsarn, Sen and Yang.

Unsuccessful mission in couple of most wanted crowns for every badminton player, OG & World Championships, possibly Tai TY will shift her focus to chase fourth All England title, same number with 1990’s Indonesian great Susy Susanti achievement. Two major oppositions coming from The Olympic Champion Chen Yufei and the in-form World Champion Akane Yamaguchi. Chen exhibited quite dip performance during Sudirman & Uber Cup last Autumn after nailed gold in Tokyo then took break to recuperate her injury. Another names to who could wreak havoc between top-three strong contenders is none but Korean young lady, An Se Young and the rejuvenated He Bingjiao who presented her extraordinary form last week in Muelheim an der Ruhr. Indian star Pusarla Sindhu hasn't on her element yet while it's vague to gauge the comeback Nozomi Okuhara performance.

Japan men’s doubles rules All England top podium in last two editions in the name of Endo/Watanabe then as we know Hiroyuki Endo called quit and Yuta Watanabe is focusing on his mixed doubles career. No worries to their ace retirement, Japan produces another stellar pair to reckon, Hoki/Kobayashi who displaying electrifying feat post Olympic Games that culminated on Huelva World Championships late December 2021. The regular contender of this discipline, INA brings no less than six combinations including their mainstays, The Minions & Daddies. One notable pair to be missed, the Olympic Champions Lee Y/Wang CL, lack of impressive result to record post August 2021.

Former champions Fukushima/Hirota ending the hiatus to pause their participation post OG last year as Sayaka Hirota underwent surgery and needed long time recovery period. Women’s doubles constellation experienced slightly modification last year, some second-stringers won BWF World Tour in the absence of top names. In the complete line up, the title contention will range between East Asian stranglehold plus the Olympic Champions, perhaps the soon-to-be retired Greysia Polii would made memorable strory in her last All England campaign. Interesting to follow Bulgarian inspiring pair who might offer different script, they’re slated to meet second Lee/Shin in opening round.

No exaggerated to predict two prominent mixed doubles combo as strongest favourites to clinch XD crown, Bass/Popor carved glory in Huelva world meet while Wang YL/Huang YQ struck momentous winning of their career in last Summer Tokyo OG. One more prominent pair, two-time World Champions Zheng/Huang where their partnerships will be ended after All England completion as Zheng SW, Huang YQ will be paired permanently with Zhang Shuxian and Ou Xuanyi respectively. Other contestants to pay attention, defending champion Watanabe/Higashino who performed badly last week, home favorites Ellis/Smith, FRA hopefuls Gicquel/Delrue and 2020 winners Jordan/Oktavianti who turned to be club players after degraded from INA national team.

    R/32 MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
    - Loh Kean Yew (SGP) v Anders Antonsen (DEN)
    - Kenta Nishimoto (JPN) v Lee Zii Jia (MAS)
    - Hans Kristian Vittinghus (DEN) v Kento Momota (JPN)
    - Nozomi Okuhara (JPN) v Line Christophersen (DEN)
    - Kirsty Gilmour (SCO) v Zhang Beiwen (USA)
    - Wang Zhiyi (CHN) v Pusarla V.Sindhu (IND)

As usual very confusing how on there site list two courts and then a very long list of matches with times but no courts. I hate how i have to scamble
For illegal live youtube matches only for it to cut half way through. Also dislike how only one or at most two courts have cAmeras …BWF needs to be replaced ! They are doing a horrible job marketing badminton and scheduling the matches the courts, cameras , the most popular players / teams on no cAmera courts , WD long unbearable rallies cutting into the matches we really want to see. I am pretty sure if we introduce badminton to the united states , it will blow up being a fast pace high energy game that is a super work out within 10 minutes buring over 100 calories. Yet no usa tour to atlease introduce it to the public . I dont know maybe i am wrong but I personally not happy with BWF .

5 courts 5 different games why not just use 1 court for all ms one for all md one court for all xd and so on. So we can follow the matches a bit easier! Instead of scrambling to find matches and when they end to see whats next .

Agreed, BWF has one of the worst coverage if not the worst. If They are happy they stream it on BWF, otherwise they leave it until the semi finals lol ! I don’t need commentators for every game. But at least give us a good live coverage of the games ! It is just so frustrating !

I know I comment this a lot but I just wanted to write once how inaccessible this tournament is for Indian viewers.

    1. This tournament will just be live streamed on an OTT platform called VOOT. Not many people have VOOT. There are already big OTT subscriptions like Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime and Sony LIV that people buy. Buying another OTT subscription for watching badminton is not economically feasible.

    2. Not everyone knows how to use VPN and watch on YouTube. Even if they do, VPN and live matches needs a strong and unlimited internet connection if we want to watch all matches throughout the day. Most people don't have such strong and unlimited internet.

    3. People can perhaps watch on Jio Sports 1 but I am not sure if they'll regularly telecast badminton or not. Moreover, it's accessible to only Jio users. And not many people know this information.

    4. Unofficial live streams are hard to find and are often bad quality.
So how would a non-Jio, non-VOOT user with limited and not so strong internet watch badminton when it's not airing on normal TV?

And even with all this trouble, only court 1 will be available to watch in India for THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS TOURNAMENT OF BADMINTON. This seems so ridiculous and so inaccessible. Except ardent fans, no one would like to put in so much efforts.

Surely in this day and age its not hard to have one streaming camera on each court, and then if they are feeling kind they can just put some timestamps.

Personally I think badminton looks better with the camera at a lower angle on one of the corners of the court, shows off the 3d nature of the game alot better, and it just generally feels so much more exciting!

WD (maybe WS too) should use one speed shuttle faster than the other events, to reach an approximately similar level of attack vs defence as the other disciplines. 2 hour matches is ridiculous and really messes up tournament/tv scheduling as well.

Also, BWF should arrange the matches keeping in mind the different time zones. Many Indian matches are late at night after 11 pm in here's time. The same happens for Indonesia. Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and all the other badminton countries which are east to India.

So, matches that are happening after 4-5 pm in london's time, would be late at night for all countries where badminton is popular or even past midnight.

For example, the session 2 for QF and SF, starts at 17:00 london time, which means 10:30 pm in Indian time, which means around midnight for Indonesia, which means 2:00 am for Japan. How would viewers of these countries watch session 2 matches? I really hope that no Indian's match is in session 2, either for QF or SF.

Youtube illegal streaMs are CRRY frustrating they get cut half way through the match. Are extremely hard to find! Most tv stations only broadcast the semi and finals days ! There sooo much wrong going on that it’s frustrating! Badminton MD IMO is 100x funner to watch then tennis . I personally thing badminton can over take it with the stack MD groups coming in play!
