Cold and dry weather with strings don't mix well (especially thin gauge strings). I ran through BG80 once a month on my rackets at temperatures 20°C and below whereas I can't even break them in tropical weather.

Back in the days of natural gut (Babolat VS), some people waxed (though I can't recall exactly what they used).

But I've never seen anyone here (in Denmark) was their synthetic strings).

Tried this string, had it strung @26 lbs.
1st session, the sound had very high pitch; it was almost like I could break the string anytime I hit the shuttle.
2nd session onwards, the string felt really good. REALLY good. Smash, clear, backhand clear/smash all feels really good.

Unfortunately, the string now already feels dead in less than 2 weeks. I can see one or two notches and sign of fraying.

Granted I usually play 5 times a week, 2 - 4 hours each session. 80% of my sessions were with AS string.

No wonder. You're putting so many hours through the string constantly. I have it at 28lbs but play about 5 hours a week only. But it's been perfectly fine for me for 2 months now. Actually not getting that much fraying..seems to be a consistent problem for me with any string.. I still can't break it on a mishit yet either..

Haha yeah I get that, but I came from Li Ning no. 1 so the difference in durability feels really significant; usually it took me at least a month to see signs of fraying with Li Ning no. 1.

    EDIT:
When the string was alive, I liked it better than Li Ning no. 1 though.

Nah, I'm in the experimentation mood now. Gonna try different popular strings and tension before settling for one now (kizuna and gosen next).

Btw, if you bring your own reel, how much do you pay your stringer for one job? Or do you always string your rackets yourself?

I know how to string myself but I'm too poor to afford a machine. So I just bring it to my usual shop and pay labour. Costs me about 10 or 12 SGD. Been awhile since I strung anything so I can remember which figure it is. It's on the expensive end here though, so don't take it as a representation of the normal labour cost for stringing in SG.

Wow you were not kidding when you said it was on the expensive end. It only costs around 13-15 SGD (depends on the string) for both the string AND the labor at the shop I usually go to (the owner strings the rackets).

On the other hand, using less durable strings like AS or BG66UM (my previous go to string) has its own advantage; the difference between fresh string vs the old one is like night and day, whereas lining no 1's tension and repulsion slow gradual drop makes it difficult to spot if the string is already too old. Sometimes playing with dead string for too long f**ks up my stroke (especially backhand clear and forehand smash from deep rear court).

LN3 feels very similar to me. I wonder if it's any more durable.

Makes me sad to say that it costs $25 AUD here for string + labor and $20 AUD just for labor..

    WOW...

Are you using LN3 right now? I am interested in knowing the comparison between LN3 and AS too. The LN3 thread is full of LN1 die-hard fans so the conclusion that I got is only "stick to LN1"

It's alright. I used to live and play in WA. And I kept breaking strings every month due to the dryer climate hahaha. I felt the pinch.

Ok very pleased with the string

Lasted 9 months at 26 lbs on nr900

    Skill level: Club

Ironically lasting longer than um66 even though thinner.

Now it is my go-to string

Only wish they come out more colors with the AS reels

I've got another N50-III on order. I'm very tempted to string it with Aerosonic at 24lbs.

Given the N50-III is an incredibly easy racket to use, I'm wondering how hard I can hit with fairly low tension AS in it.

Out of this world power and repulsion, I suppose. I was hitting cross lifts with minimal swing with AS, but I think the flex of the N50III might hinder it a bit.
