Yes sure, but you don't have choice how long you rest when you are playing in a tournament...

    Update

Day two of national interclubs :

We were playing against two regional rivals... and won both matches!! :D
    6-3 in both cases!
(I personally won both my singles matches and one mixed double match out of two)

We now have four victories out of four  , but this is also the case of four other teams in the division. As a result we are fourth out of twelve in the division (decided by "match average").
    http://asabad.free.fr/interclubs_senior_1_04-05.htm

... and next day will be on the 19th of december against the current number ONE and TWO in the division!!! I will keep you informed of the progress... :)

Of course we're all entering an individual tournament this week-end, as a preparation for next sunday's "clash"...

Enjoy so much reading your post, Seven. :)

It got the juice flowing again inside of me. :)
Thank you and Congrats, wish you continue to be successful and enjoy it as much as you can. One day you may not be able to play baddy the way you would like to. But you will not forget the time you spent in baddy with your friends and in your case, also with your family. It makes every bit of effort worthwhile. :)

    More news : day 3

Last sunday was day 3 of the national interclubs, 6 hours travel from our home ... and it was catastrophic for us! :crying:

We played against both best teams of the division and we really understood why they were ahead of us (!) : two defeats 1-8 and 2-7 as a result. :( :(

The most frustrating part is that both teams were beatable, but we lost all the tight matches and globally played rather bad matches...
(I at least have the satisfaction of having won one of my two singles matches)

Now we are still fourth of the division (out of twelve) with four victories and two defeats. (the three teams ahead of us are still unbeaten)
The next matches (day 4) will be on the 22nd of january against the other unbeaten team... and against the last team of the division.

We now have one month to train for it... :)

    Thanks fan! :)

Maybe we should create a "Stories" section on the forum for BFers to share their badminton experiences... (Kwun?)

And yes I hope I can continue playing and enjoying badminton as much as possible before I get too old to be competitive!
The spirit of team matches is very special because you don't play just for yourself. It is very motivating but also adds a lot of pressure to perform well for the team... (I find this great :D )

    Full support to you Seven

It is great that you can play in the team competitions. Team competitions are very demanding and motivating. Demanding because whole team is counting on you, motivating - the reason is likely the same.

I used to play a little bit in the league for clubs (no success neither of my club nor mine) and I find that experience great. Long journeys, sleeping in weird hostels, celebrating (wins or defeats - usually the second ones), calculation where to put better/worse players in the schedule, desperately looking for girls that would be so king to play (the teams had to consist of at least 3 gays and 3 girls), etc., and many other memories.

For me team matches usually generate the extra power and will. However, there are players that usually perform much better during individual competitions. Did you have similar observations?

    regards

Yes, different players perform differently in individual/team matches.
Some can't cope with the pressure of the team matches and underperform.
It also depends on each player's mentality...

In our case, several of our players underperformed this week-end mainly because of the pressure (our team is still very young...) after having showed good individual performances the week-end before... :(

Thanks for your words tcstay :)

Yes, I hope we can perform better next time.
If things go as we hope, we can still finish third of our division, but this means we need to win all five remaining matches...

Anyway, the complete ranking and results can be found here : http://asabad.free.fr/interclubs_senior_1_04-05.htm

Haha, nice to see you are confident now (and why not, of course) previousley you were hoping simply to stay up, now you are looking for podium position! how is that for improvement, way to go!!

Keep the updates coming, we are all supporting you.

Do you wear BC T-shirt to play?!

    Hehe! :D
Well we have already four victories and we haven't yet played against the two weakest teams of the division, so we can consider that we have already managed to stay up.
Now we can start being a litte more ambitious! ;)

About T-shirt, we don't have the choice we have the obligation to play with our club's shirt. (otherwise the club will get fined)

Day 4 : Two more victories!!

    Here's the latest update... :)

We were playing day 4 this week end at Le Mans, in the north of France, seven hours drive from home!!

And things went really great for us! :D

First we played against the last team of the division and won that match 8-1, I won both my MS and MD (with my brother) in straight games.
On this occasion, considering the girls were weak on the other side, we gave her first experience to our 15 year old player in WS. She thrashed her opponent 11-1 11-1, a rather good start! :D

The second match was much harder against the local team, number two of the division (us being fourth).
It started with two MS, including mine... and I played a really big match against an opponent two rankings above mine :
after a bad start where I tried to attack a lot without success (my opponent was a very good defender), I started lengthening the rallies to play an extremely long game, which I finally won 17-16 after saving a big bunch of gamepoints against me! :)
In the second game, I was both physically and mentally much better than my opponent, so I just kept going and won it 15-4.

After this, all the team was on fire and played brilliantly, we took an unexpected 7-2 victory against a top team of the division, that was great!

Now we are still fourth with three matches to go (all of them being played in the same week-end).
If we can win the three remaining matches we should finish third, as all three teams above us still have to play against each other and will have defeats...

Day 5 : the last three matches of the season

Very bad start when our second girl got injured in a tournament just one week before Day 5 (she sprung her ankle). :(

A major handicap for our team as we don't have many competitive girls, we had to count on our 15 year old girl, who had only played her first match ever in the team one month before (read previous post ;) ). This was a lot of pressure on her young shoulders.

Our first opponents had very strong guys and weaker girls, so everything went OK in girls as we won both WS (including our young "substitute") and the WD.
I continued my good serie by winning the third MS in straight games and even won the second mixed double with the young girl in straight games too!
Overall, we only lost one MS and the MD, 7-2 victory as a result! :D

The second opponents had better girls and specially a strong WD, our captain decided to sacrifice the WD by putting our young girl with an other substitute in the WD and keeping the two usual first-team girls for WS and MX.
A very good choice since we only lost the WD (obviously!) and the MD and won 7-2. :D

The last match was against the team just below us in the ranking, and though they had one guy and one girl missing in the team, they were still very dangerous!
The match started even with a victory in WD and a defeat in MD, than the first WS and the third MS (me! ;) ) started, with us being the favourites on both matches.
The bad news arrived when our first WS suffered a surprising defeat 13-11 in the third game, though I managed on my side to win with difficulty with a very good match from my young opponent.
We went on winning both other MS and with our young girl losing the second WS : 4-3 for us with the two mixed doubles to come, with them being slightly favourite on both matches!!
The first MX pair was our usual pair, whereas the second MX pair was our 15 year old girl and myself...
And the "miracle" happened, we just played a brilliant match to take a surprisingly large victory 15-9 15-6, whereas our first MX pair was beaten in two tight games : 5-4 victory as a final result!! :D

Now the season is finished, we have won 9 matches out of 11 and logically finish THIRD of the division (out of twelve), the two first teams were just too good for us, this is still an unexpected brilliant result as our objective at the beginning of the season was only to avoid relegation!!! :)

    From left to right :
Damien (first MS and first MX)
Claudia (doubles specialist : WD and first MX)
Colin (our captain, MD and occasionally MX or MS)
Julien (second MS and occasionally MD or MX)
Anne (second WS and second MX)
    Jessica (first WS and WD)
Ian (myself :), third MS and second MX, occasionally MD)
Océane (our 15 year old "future star" ;), our substitute and "secret weapon" on Day 5! :p)

Our regular MD player was missing on that photo as he was ill that day.

Second season in National Third Division...

    Hi all,

reviving this thread to give recent news...

We are now in our second season in national third division, after finishing in third position last season.
And we had our first matches on last sunday.

I must admit I wasn't very confident about my playing ability before sunday as I hadn't entered any official tournament since april, and although I had prepared myself seriously physically, all my matches at training were quite catastrophic!:(

However, I did play the second men's single for my team even so...
... and things didn't go so badly in the end, although I lost my first game 15-4 in a rather catastrophic manner, I managed to wake up and play very well to win the next two games 15-2 15-1 and give one point to my team.
A useful point since we only won 5-4 thanks to a 17-16 victory in the decider of the second mixed doubles !!

In our second tie, I played another good match to win 11-15 15-3 15-8 (second MS too), and we eventually won the tie 9-0 !!!:D

This was our first ever victory with such a margin at this level, all the team played great matches!

... and as a result, we are top of our division after the first two ties!!! :D
(OK this probably won't last, but it's always nice when it happens ;) )
