Yap Kim Hock (former partner of Cheah) was jailed for drunk driving in Malaysia. is drunk driving a big felony there?

Strange. Plenty of people drink and drive in M'sia though illegal.
Other examples of crazy road behaviour.
Motorcycles go in the opposite direction in the hard shoulder of the highway.
If a car/van misses a turning on the highway, many times they will stop and reverse to go back to the turning.
They are many more other incidents.

Ah. But Yap failed to turn up in court for a hearing on drunk driving. And I guess not appearing in court constitutes a more serious offense than drunk driving?

I think its more of a case of bad luck. He was just unlucky to have got caught since plenty of people do it all the time

Just to clarify, I am NOT in favour of drink driving.

Gee, i thought alcohol and narcotic laws in SE asia are very tough so that no one want to risk it.

No, he wasn't jailed. He got the summon and went to the police station when he should have appeared in the court. He was fined $2,500.

The laws in Singapore are very strict on everything, even stepping in grass that has just been planted. It isn't so strict in Malaysia though, i'm half Malaysian and whenever i go to visit my Malaysian relatives, they always say how tough Singapore laws are compared to Malaysian laws. I guess in a way its good, Singapore is nice and clean, though i have i say there isn't enough Badminton here....
