Different circumstances for such a defensive player like him. At 30, playing singles...Not everyone is LCW. Look at LinDan past 30, Jorgensen, and etc.

Momota normally is defensive when he is under pressure. His game plan against extremely offensive players is always to outlast them, mixing some attacks occasionally. Unfortunately his defence is not up to scratch here, and he lacks a more offensive mode as a secondary game plan.

Agreed, he has said before that he is improving on his attacks. And today his firepower has been sub par. HEO’s defense were amazing, especially the few cross court defense.. and Momota not winning the net games just adds more salt to the wound

Any player would have done what Heo did.

Go watch the match LCW v Wei Nan. LCW defense wasn't present at all. So it was smash galore. Same stuff today.

Yeah exactly. He's not in his early 20s anymore and a lot could happen in 4 years. Granted, he might compete in the next Olympics but it's not going to be easy to win at that age.

I don't think Momota has the arsenal to win at this age. And at that time the fitness would overcome tactics even more. So...

The Olympic broadcasting for my country had no commentator so we could hear the umpire clearly.

Chae raised her arm to indicate shot was out, we can also hear Korean coach clapping. Right after it's called out Wang looked at the umpire and started pulling at the arm of his shirt to indicate a touch.

Umpire says "touch" and point goes to China. Chae was also seen saying "no" and shaking her head, doesn't seem like something she'd do if they were trying to challenge.

That's what amused me. The umpire awarded the point based on what the opponent claimed. He couldn't have seen the shuttle touching Chae.

I kept waiting for Momota to say enough is enough, get that stoic look off his face, and start fighting for his points.

Difference is LCW didnt go back empty handed he earned 3 consecutive silver medals...So Its better to have a legendary set of 3 Olympic Silver Medals than ABSOLUTELY NOTHING !

For a moment, I thought Pablo was gonna give Chen Long a run for his money too. But nah.

His defense sucked and he kept hitting shots into the net. Looked out of form. His opponent played well too, but an in form Momota would've coped with it.
