It’s cultural , right? Go back 15-20 years ago, team Japan were fairly mediocre.

Its all about conserving energy, how much they want to try win this . Top the group or lose this in tough manner and lose again tomorrow. or just lose it altogether and just regroup.

I feel like this stadium is fast or the shuttle in stadium is fast. Dont know why, the last time i saw Musashino in Japan, feels like its slow and so hard to kill.

Could be hard to play defense in this arena. that 2 points win against LeeWang could be crucial. Cant wait ShettyRR vs EndoWata / LiLiu.

Too many errors by Satwik and Chirag in the 3rd set. Kevin also started to intercept a lot of shots at the net, and it turned the tide for Indonesia in the 3rd set. I think Satwik and Chirag may become a top 3 MD team eventually, but they need the consistency first.

Hope they are not nervous if they go through, they are the youngest pair in this tournament. Really have nothing to lose, just enjoy the match and who knows a medal is on their way.

the games dont mean much now. ShettyRR has to beat LaneVendy , whatever score it is and hope LeeWang lost to Minions. LeeWang win and they are through.

I think Praveen/Melati and Dechapol/Sapsiree will pose bigger problem to ZSW/HYQ, than Yuta/Arisa and WYL/HDP

First badminton gold medal to grab will coming from Mixed Doubles, the quarterfinal match will be scheduled on Wednesday (28th July) and there'll be fresh draw for doubles discipline in knock-out phase. No repeated match will happen as pair who had met in group stage will not be drawn with same pair again in knock-out stage.

    Mixed Doubles group-stage conclusion :

    GROUP A
    Zheng/Huang (CHN) (W)
    Seo/Chae (KOR) (RU)

    GROUP B
    Ellis/Smith (GBR)
    Puavaranukroh/Taerattanachai (THA)

    GROUP C
    Watanabe/Higashino (JPN)
    Jordan/Oktavianti (INA)

    GROUP D
    Wang/Huang (CHN)
    Tang/Tse (HKG)

The plot twist dejects two seeded pairs to occupy top position of their respective group. The most stunnig result is created by Ellis/Smith who play nothing to lose and being pro active to penetrate the under pressure Thai duo who can't exploit their true color, being defensive mostly, totally below-par performance. It's not too surprising to witness Jordan/Oktavianti fail to overcome home favourites if we watch their two previous matches here, the lethargic Indonesians can't balance the speedy Watanabe/Higashino and facing trouble to answer the Japanese shot variations including disguising drop shot several times. The thriling match in group D involves Tang/Tse and Lamsfuss/Herttrich to hunt last eight spot, sharing one game apiece with identical scoreline, 22-20 HKG southpaws pull off in late stage of deciding game.

Why Dechapol/Sapsiree though? Watching their matches I always thought they struggle to keep up with ZSW/HYQ’s pace.

Because they are the only ones who have beaten them at least (or more?) than twice and resulting in eventual title victories.

Only need to win 29 points combined to qualify.

A 14 and 15 loss would also do.

So if count by games, if rubber, korean is out coz they won 2 games and lost 3 games in total.

If korean wins in 2 games vs ina. Then 2 win and 2 lost. So, count by points. Correct?

Assuming the last team canada beaten in straight games by ina, korea and msia.

England selected Lane/Vendy, who is ranked lower than Ellis/Langridge.
Chia/Soh is ranked higher than Goh/Tan, so they qualify by merit.
