Indeed. Never expected her to out run (or at least keep up with) Okuhara.

The CHN team training camp must have been intense before the Olympics, all players are mentally prepared and physically fit. Just totally ignored international competitions for over a year and pull this off. Well played by HBJ, staying consistent and toughing it out.

Yes, HBJ, CQC, JYF all look noticeably fitter.

Contrast that to Gideon, Jordan, Melati, stark stark difference.

Ya, saw her against CYF in a preparation match and I was amazed by her condition.

I think Chen Qingchen has also shed off some weight. I wouldn't call her Dora now.

China really has done their homework. Can’t help thinking the country’s covid policy has helped the players. Strict control of Covid has allowed the players more time to have centralised training. Secondly, although not able to go out of the countries for tournaments, there’s a critical mass of high level players for internal competition. Not totally ideal but seemingly much better.

The old HBJ would never have taken a third game off of Nozomi

Makes us think about 08 Beijing now how Chinese handled the pressure , not only they had a dominating performance in Badminton but also they topped the overall medals tally. Japan at present is doing way better than expected at overall medals tally but they fizzled out in Badminton.

Do not be misled by the appearance of CYF in G1.

As you rightly said ,it should be the covid policy and conditioning both physically & mentally.
Without international exposure for such a large period and coming off and displaying such a performance is simply amazing.

Let's buckle in for some long rallies, ASY going on the defensive and playing her drops close to the net. Can't see her winning against CYF like that but it's close for now, big test of fitness.

Just strolling casually across the court, looks so effortless.

    Yes, impressed with ASY footwork.

Some silly errors from CYF to give ASY a 9-6 lead. 3 straight errors.
