This time they beat both Yuki/Hiro and Taka/Matsu to win the gold. After their not so good performance in team event, they have done really well here

Zzzzz stupid result. Takamatsu should’ve taken the first game. Only time they showed mental toughness was in that end of the deciding game in Rio. At least they won that Olympic Gold but they could win so much more if they’re more confident and fired up on court.

Yeah yeah blame the players who played bad never praise the players who won because they played better

Nobody expected Chen/Jia would have performed this good.

The advantage of being the underdogs really played a lot of factor in this AG somehow.

Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan defeat Matsutomo/Takahashi in really close match, 22-20 / 22-20. Another AG silver medal for TakaMatsu but fortunately they had bagged Rio Olympic Gold medal. Former world champion Chen/Jia perform well in individual event, a positive and different attitude, they're really on-fire this time after dismal and unconvincing feat lately including World Championships. An upset in women's doubles category, the Chinese youngsters defeat two higher-ranked Japanese pairs in a row, what a performance.

    Congrats to all medalists :)

    Gold - Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan
Silver - Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi (JPN)
Bronze - Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota (JPN) ; Greysia Polii/Apriani Rahayu (INA)

Well some people have already praised Chen/Jia so I didn’t think I needed to. Personally, I think they played at the level they’re supposed to as former world champions and we know that they are capable of this kind of play. They’ve just set the bar so low for themselves in recent top level matches that this performance comes off as “unexpected”. Also in a match this close with two 22-20 games, I’d say that both pairs played well and none of them really played “bad” as you term it. But it comes down to who wants it more as well as confidence at the highest of stages. Anyway, Takamatsu going home as gold medallists anyway so whatever.
