The abscence of Denmark is conspicuous. Japan has Taiwan and Hong Kong in their group. Toughest group.
Not particularly. Only a year ago, Denmark placed a disappointing 13th. Add to that the fact that by skipping the team event and showing up for only the individual events, Denmark's juniors may be able to get the experience of playing at least qualifying rounds at home at the inaugural Denmark Open Super Series. That could be their plan.
For further info, visit www.worldjuniors2007.co.nz and the individual draw will be held on October 17. I guess that is after the Idul Fitri holidays, eh? The administrators in MAS need the vacation first...
Where are they? The future badminton countries... Where's the Junior teams of Brazil, Peru, Canada, Mexico, Sweden, France, Italy, Spain, Ukraine? Is it a matter of them not having any decent enough Juniors [give 'em the experience anyway, dude... ] or is it a matter of $$$ [can't raise money for badminton... ]. Hey, even Mongolia participates, ok... Their country is extremely poor and they don't have decent badminton players... But they go to NZ anyway because they looveee badminton and want to join the biggest Under-19 party event on the planet... Uhm... BWF, you should be paying attention to these future badminton countries... If they don't have the $$$ maybe you should chip in... Part of your investments for the sport's globalization...
Maybe the distance is a problem. New Zealand is very far from Europe or North America, especially for a bunch of high school students, especially if they lose as badly as they did last year.
Makes a lot of sense...but if they get more exposure, it will be good for them.I guess they just don't want to waste their time, money and energy.
Its not yet confirmed if Saina is going to be part of the junior team. There is going to be a elite coaching camp for the indian team for the WC Jrs starting from the 8th, some juniors to lookout for who may be part of the team - Nithya Sosale Ashwini Ponappa Sikki Reddy Ruth Misha
Why? These 4 teams are all pretty much evenly matched... Thus all their matches are going to be tightly played... Fun for us, the fans...
From what i heard.. ..from our Hau-ge/huangkwokhau, who's currently in Macau right now, witnessing the Macau Open, that after talking with Saina, he mentioned that she WILL NOT be part of the IND Junior contingence...(Although, for some reason i can't find his post mentioning abt that, maybe he edited it)~~~Hau-ge, can you confirm for us??
Considering things like school time missed and limited sponsorship money, some of those juniors might see twice the benefit for half the money in some of the other junior tournaments this fall. In the last 3 months of this year alone, there are 7 junior tournaments: Slovenia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Turkey, Finland, and Singapore. There are also a pile more satellites and challenges left in the year for the juniors to cut their teeth on. The good news about having the WJC in New Zealand is that is will be handier and cheaper for the many juniors in Oceania and parts of Asia. It will also be interesting to see how many nations, like Denmark, will send players to only the individual events. After all, the seniors rarely have such a gruelling schedule of 11 days straight as the Thomas/Uber or Sudirman competitions are always separate from the WC. I guess the Asian Games does something similar but they had draws of 32 while all of the draws at the WJC last year had either 64 or 128 entries after a 5-day team competition! Another date conflict with the WJC team event is the European U17 championships so there is a tiny chance that that could be a deterrent for a country with very young talent.
YES..she will not participate as she would like to play more senior tournaments..she has entered Denmark open and it may clash with the schedule...thats all she said when she was warming up against Rosaria...
