    Preview: Day 1 for Malaysians

    MS

Kuan Beng Hong v Stuart Gomez (Aus)
Kuan's form is shitty, but not shitty enough to lose to Gomez, no disrespect meant to the Aussie.

    WS

Wong Mew Choo v Chien Yu-Chin (Tpe)
The redraw was tough on Wong. I still expect her to win but it will a struggle all the way until she meets Zhang Ning in R16 (if she can get that far).

    WD

Ooi Sock Ai/Mooi Hing Yau v Bankier/Mason (Sco)
Both pairs are unknown to me, but given their rankings, the Malaysians have no excuse for losing this.

Fong Chew Yen/See Phui Leng v Kurdelska/Matusewicz (Pol)
It's not the top Polish pair, so the Malaysians should have no excuse also.

Lim Pek Siah/Chor Hooi Yee v Duang-Anong/Kunchala (Tha)
Both pairs are reasonably good, and my feeling is that they are evenly matched. I will still go for the Malaysians due to their experience and probably the absence of expectations (they are not affiliated with BAM, so no pressure from there).

    XD
Koo Kien Keat/Wong Pei Tty v Songpol/Kunchala (Tha)
A tough first round match for Koo/Wong. To be brutally frank, neither pair can make it far anyway. I feel it may be better for every single player in this match to concentrate on their respective MD or WD events. BAM does not seem to put much import in the Koo/Wong partnership recently also. So perhaps a loss here will be a blessing in disguise. BTW, the Thais are seeded, but I expect this match to be close.

Errr....since either end of last year or this year onwards. Zhang Dan is now paired with Zhao Tingting, while Wei Yili is partnering Zhang Yawen.

Kendrick Lee lost the first set to Bjorn Joppien 17-21.

Meanwhile, It's level at 1-1 between Jo Novita/Gresya Polii and Rachel Van Cutsen/Paulien Van Dooremalen  The Indonesian pair took the first set easily 21-10, but the Netherland pair levelled it by taking the second set 21-19. Jo/Gresya better don't screw it up in the decider!

Kendrick currently leads 11-9 at the interval of the second set. I hope he takes the second set!

    Meanwhile, Jo/Gresya are cruising 17-8.

Kendrick Lee fights back to take the second set 21-18. Can he win the decider?
