The schedule for the first day are out, with 65 matches being played tomorrow. Here's the pick of the first day of competition. MS ROUND OF 64 (14 MATCHES) Kendrick Lee Yen Hui vs Bjoern Joppien (MATCH OF THE DAY)-- a tough first match for Kendrick and I hope he progresses. Joachim Persson vs Shon Seung Mo Klaus Raffeiner vs Nguyen Tien Minh -- Minh has been showing progress this year and he should win tomorrow. Sony Dwi Kuncoro vs Raul Must -- an easy workout for Sony. Kuan Beng Hong vs Stuart Gomez -- ditto for Kuan...if he loses in the first round again, there's nothing I can't say! Lee Hyun Il vs Chetan Anand -- tricky first tie, but the Korean should progress. Eric Pang vs Chan Yan Kit MD ROUND OF 64 (9 MATCHES) Shuichi Sakamoto/Shintaro Ikeda vs Mike Beres/William Milroy Michael Logosz/Robert Mateusiak vs Ian Palethorpe/Kristian Roebouck WS ROUND OF 64 (14 matches) Kaori Mori vs Anu Nieminen Jeanine Cicognini vs Fransisca Ratnasari -- Nana's debut at the WC and she should win! Wong Mew Choo vs Chien Yu-Chin (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- a tough one for both players...I think the Malaysian player can win. Rachel Hindley vs Xing Aiying -- the young Singaporean player has been wobbling lately. She should win though. Jiang Yanjiao vs Saina Nehwal -- again, the Indian is unlucky to draw the Chinese player in the first round. Jiang to progress! WD ROUND OF 64 (18 MATCHES) Jo Novita/Gresya Polii vs Rachel Van Cutsen/Paulien Van Dooremalen -- the Indonesian no 1 pair has the honour of playing in the first match of the WC this year. They should pass their first test! Johanna Persson/Elin Berglom vs Diana Dimova/Petya Nedeltcheva -- the Bulgarian pair has a good run at the Hong Kong Open and should beat the Swedish pair. Duang-Anong Arunkesorn/Kunchala Vorawichitchaikul vs Lim Pek Siah/Chor Hoi Yee -- the more experienced Malaysian pair could win. Miyuki Maeda/Satoko Suetsuna vs Nina Vislova/Valeri Sorokina Birgit Oversier/Carina Mette vs Wei Yili/Zhang Jiewen -- a breeze for the Chinese pair. Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia vs Emelie Lennartsson/Sophia Hansson -- the Singaporean pair shouldn't have a problem. Ha Jung Eun/Hwang Yu Mi vs Lena Frier-Kristensen/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl -- I am picking the Danish pair to win because of their experience. XD ROUND OF 64 (10 MATCHES) Natalie Munt/Robert Blair vs Keita Masuda/Tomomi Matsuda -- a tricky tie for the England pair, but, they should manage. Songol Anukritayawan/Kunchala Vorawichitchaikul vs Koo Kien Keat/Wong Pei Tty (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- the Malaysian pair won win, perhaps in 3 sets. Lars Paaske/Helle Nielsen vs Zhang Wei/Yu Yang -- tough to pick out a winner...probably the Danes? Jonas Rasmussen/Britta Andersen vs Kristian Roebuck/Jenny Wallwork -- the Danes have shown improvements as a pair this year. They should win. Shintaro Ikeda/Satoko Suetsuna vs Robert Mateusiak/Nadiezda Kostiuczyk -- the Polish pair to win!
I think he MUST go through the first round no matter what...I hope he can do well in the first match...So,any broadcasting tomorrow???
Astro Channel 83 will start broadcast around 5pm and Beng Hong play at around 9pm so I think there's a chace we may see him in action, just not sure is he in camera court?
Why so many people worry about Taufik and Beng Hong's 1st round? The difficulty of the match will grow exponentially round after round. The 1st round opponents' strength is the top 64, (supposed all the best go to WC, actually the strength is top 212 from reality check). Then the 2nd round opponents' strength is top 32, then top 16, ... If someone choke at the first round, let it be. He's either not good enough, or runs out of luck already.
First matches are always tricky. Need to get used to conditions. Those higher seeds might have byes but it means their opponents already have had a match to get used to conditions. Add to that the pressure of expectation in playing the WC means there are real chances of top seeds facing difficult matches early on.
Birgit Oversier/Carina Mette vs Wei Yili/Zhang Jiewen -- a breeze for the Chinese pair. When did Wei Yili switch partner?
