Not good for LCW, I don't think he likes the pressure of being Seed # 1. Good draw for Taufik...should be interesting. Unfortunately no Kenneth.
Argh...two m'sian MD in same half as the koreans...M'sian don't have good records against them...the good thing is CTF/LWW won't meet them until semis.... CCM/KKK have good draw....i predict that they'll beat Jens and Martin which i believe are not at their best lately....and then Fu/Cai which had nvr beaten them in 2 encounters... LCW have good draw too at least until semis where he'll most probably meet CJ or maybe a 60% chance LHI...
the draw has out... i think the draw is juz good for LCW... mas MD got all tough draw... CTF & LWW need to face kido setiawan...tat is some danger to get pass them...if they can did it...they will be in semi for lee yong dae(most probably) CCM & KKK need to pass tricky korean then eriksen/lungaard in qf as the chn is waiting in semis fairuzizuan & LWF got the toughest as chn 2nd pair waiting n last 16 then the top seed in qf... haiz=.=
If TH wants to defend his title then he is likely to need to beat the following players: Ng Wai Chen Hong Peter Gade Lin Dan LCW Possible?
Wow...the draw has come out and everyone is discussing about it...I think that the MS match is the most tough among all the event...Well...Whoever who win this time MS title is really a world champion...That person must be able to beat all the strong opponent...Ask for who is really get the good draw..this is very hard to defined because everyone will meet the strong opponents...So, all the players ,do your best and i really don't wish there is any unhappy incident happened again..Let wish the competition will go with a smooth way...
i can't believe it taufik gets an 'easy draw' (my prediction was Th would be in LCW or LD group) he has good records againts the opponents (Ng wei, chen hong, bonsak, only PG who has good record but he often loses to TH recently)
as the top 4 seeds I think gade has got the most unlucky draw. meeting the tricky Ponsana who is by far the most dangerous of the 9/16 seeds and then "perhaps" an inform Taufik before he can reach his seeding spot I actuallt think we wont see a Gade going that far. I have a strong feeling Lin Dan will do it this year, if not then Chen Jin has proved that he can take over.
i dont think that Taufik has the capabilities any more go get into that SF match. im guessing he will lose in the QF match most likely against PG. SF: LWC vs. CJ LD vs. PG Final: LD vs. CJ
If LCW is to be win the World Championship, he will effectively have to go through the 'Great Wall of China'. BCL in the Quarters, CJ in the Semis and LD in the Final. That would be a major achievement if he can achieve it.
The Star Online > Sports Saturday September 9, 2006 Favourable draw could provide a Malaysian world champion PENANG: It's all falling into place for the Malaysian badminton doubles players. A favourable draw for all three pairs in the fray could well provide the first Malaysian world badminton champion at the World Championships in Madrid on Sept 18-24. World number three Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah, number five Chan Chong Ming-Koo Kien Keat and debutants Mohd Fairuzizuan Tazari-Lin Woon Fui, the sixth seeds, all stand a good chance of stealing the spotlight away from men’s singles world number one Lee Chong Wei. Veterans Tan Fook-Wan Wah have been handed an early chance to make amends for their spectacular third game collapse in the Hong Kong Open final against Indonesians Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan last week. The two pairs are on course to meet in the third round in Madrid. If the Malaysians get their expected revenge, the reward could be an “easy” quarter-final matchup against either Tadashi Ohtsuka-Keita Masuda of Japan or England’s Anthony Clark-Robert Blair. Also in the bottom half of the draw are Mohd Fairuzizuan-Woon Fui. The Malaysian Openfinalists will get their baptism of fire in the third round against China’s second best pair Guo Zhendong-Xie Zhongbo. A victory over the Chinese would set-up a last eight meeting against second seeds Jung Jae Sung-Lee Yong Dae. National doubles coach Rexy Mainaky is not discounting the possibility of an all-Malaysian semi-final at the World Championships. “It is a very good doubles draw for Malaysia, especially for Tan Fook and Wan Wah. After being handed a clear path to the last four, it is unlikely that they will blunder by making the same mistakes against the Indonesian pair. “I am confident that they will go far in the world meet. It will be a bonus if Fairuzizuan and Woon Fui can also rise to the occasion and set up an all Malaysian semi-final,” said Rexy. In the top half, last year’s semi-finalists Chong Ming and Kien Keat face their biggest threat in Denmark's Jens Eriksen-Martin Lungaard Hansen in the quarter-finals. Rexy, however, feels the Malaysians can draw inspiration from their battling victory over the former world number one veterans in the Thomas Cup semi-finals in May. The winners of the plum tie are expected to take on top seeds Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng in the last four. “On their day, Chong Ming and Kien Keat can beat any pair in the world. They have already beaten the Danes in the Thomas Cup and can also match the Chinese top pair. “I am looking forward to seeing a very good challenge from them,” added the former world champion, who will be leaving for Madrid today. Meanwhile, Wong Pei Tty-Chin Ee Hui got their wish of avoiding the top two ranked Chinese pairs in the last eight of the women’s doubles competition. The pair, who are seeded eighth for the world meet, could still face Chinese opposition in the form of Zhang Yawen-Wei Yili or Englishwomen Gail Emms-Donna Kellogg in the quarter-finals.
poor LCW The Star Online > Sports Saturday September 9, 2006 Badminton: Chong Wei up against a wall By LOGANATH VELLOO CHONG WEI: Need to get past three Chinese players at World Championships. PENANG: Top seed and world number one Lee Chong Wei needs to bring down the “Great Wall of China” if he is to become the first Malaysian to be crowned the world badminton champion. In the draw released yesterday for the World Championships, which will be held in Madrid from Sept 18-24, Chong Wei needs to get past three Chinese players before he can get his hands on the world title. Chong Wei, who received an opening round bye, should not face much problems in getting past either Singaporean Kendrick Lee or German Bjoern Joppien and South Korea’s Shon Seung Mo to reach the last eight. However, his real test will begin in the quarter-finals, where the Malaysian is likely to take on Korean Open champion Bao Chunlai, the seventh seed. If Chong Wei manages to overcome Chunlai and equal his 2005 world meet’s achievement, he will be up against another Chinese player – Chen Jin. The two-time world junior champion, who is seeded third, almost upset Chong Wei in the Hong Kong Open semis last week and could prove to be one of the biggest surprises at the World Championships. Chong Wei’s bogey opponent Lin Dan could very well be waiting in the final. In four meetings this year, the Malaysian has not beaten the Chinese in any competition outside Malaysia. Chong Wei, however, can heave a huge sigh of relief for avoiding defending champion Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia in his half of the draw. Taufik, who is unseeded after his rankings plummeted to number 31, is considered a dangerous floater in the draw. Fourth seed Peter Gade Christensen was the unlucky top four player to be drawn in the same quarter with the brilliant yet unpredictable world and Olympic champion. It was a bittersweet draw for Malaysia’s number two player Mohd Hafiz Hashim. World number nine Hafiz had learnt earlier in the day that he was elevated to eighth seed following the withdrawal of world number six Kenneth Jonassen of Denmark because of a knee injury. However, Hafiz’s joy was shortlived after he was drawn to meet Lin Dan in the quarter-finals in the much tougher bottom half. Malaysia’s third singles player Kuan Beng Hong has a bright chance of making a winning world meet debut against unknown Australian Stuart Gomez in the first round. But it is highly unlikely for Beng Hong can go beyond the third round where third seed Chen Jin will be waiting. In the women’s singles, national number one Wong Mew Choo also got a tough draw. The 13th seed opens accounts against Slovenia’s Maja Kersnik and should progress to the third round, where she is due to meet world number two Xu Huawen of Germany.
