Sorry if this has been discussed before. It is just unusual because every other badminton minnows are having their full quota of three. Surely Hafiz /Kuan Beng Hong and Lin Woon Fui/ Fairuzizan would be a sure bronze if not silver or gold.

Quality instead of quantity. But I would have preferred three actually. For safeguarding reasons if a player/pair gets injured.

Malaysia only sends 5 men and 5 women for all the events (Mixed Team, MD, MS, XD, WS & WD).

KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttlers Mohd Hafiz Hashim and Lee Wan Wah will not get the chance to win Commonwealth Games gold medal for the second time.
They were left out of the side for the Melbourne Games scheduled for March 15-26 as Malaysia opted for two singles and three doubles players to form the five-member side.
All-England semi-finalist and world number two Lee Chong Wei will bid to retain the men’s singles title for Malaysia along with veteran Wong Choong Hann.
Choong Hann will also play in the doubles, partnering Choong Tan Fook. The other doubles pair in the team are Chan Chong Ming-Koo Kien Keat. Chong Ming partnered Chew Choon Eng to win the gold medal at the last Games in Manchester.
[IMG] Hafiz’s exclusion from the team comes as no surprise. The 2002 Manchester Games champion fared poorly at the Swiss Open and All-England championships.
He failed in the defence of the Swiss Open title in Basel three weeks ago, losing tamely to China’s former world champion Xia Xuanze in the second round.
In Birmingham last week, Hafiz, who won the All-England title in 2003, lost to Chinese youngster Chen Jin in the first round.
National champion Julia Wong earned her biggest career break when she was confirmed as one of the two women’s singles players in the team together with national number one Wong Mew Choo.
Manila SEA Games gold medallists Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui will bid to retain the women’s doubles gold won by Ang Li Peng-Lim Pek Siah at the 2002 Games.
The other doubles player in the team is Ooi Sock Ai.
The Badminton association of Malaysia (BAM) president, Datuk Mohamed Nadzmi Salleh, said after the coaching committee meeting that the main reason for opting for two singles and three doubles players was to ensure that Malaysia had a strong grip on the men’s singles gold.
“If we name only one singles player, there is a possibility that we will regret it if the player has to withdraw because of injury or illness,” he said.
“We also want to defend the men’s doubles title and the coaches felt that those selected will live up to expectations.”
There are six gold medals at stake in badminton at the Melbourne Games – for the men’s and women’s singles; men’s and women’s doubles; mixed doubles and the mixed team events.
A country can field four players for the singles, two pairs for the doubles and four pairs for the mixed doubles.

I think in the individual event, each countries is only allowed to send 2 players/pairs is to prevent Malaysia from sweeping all medals the men's event

No, other teams have 3. It is apparent to me that the max is 3.

Table Tennis allows 3 entries from 1 countries in the individual events, S'pore sweeps all 3 medals in mixed double, why not badminton? Such discrimination.

Msia lack of depth in the women events. We just have one reliable WS and one WD.

Before you accuse, get the facts right first. Badminton is allowed 3 entries per event. It's just that Malaysia only wanted to field 2 per event.

Last CGW, Malaysian Team swept all 3 MS medals. But don't know why this CWG on can send 2 for each event?
But I heard that the rule is each country only allowed to send 10 players (male + female).
Another reason is, the rest players were sent to China Master Cup.
