In the sense of avoiding the overlapping roles, I'd like to propose these pairs:

    Tang Yuanting / Ma Jin

Bao Yixin / Zhong Qianxin (*)

(*) provided Zhong is fully recovered from her injury. I recalled when Bao Yixin/Zhong Qianxin just arose to the world stage, they made stellar appearances in consecutive tournaments then.

Tang Yuanting / Bao Yixin is an excellent choice but then the two just make one pair.

I still prefer to see Zhao Yunlei focusing totally in XD, of course Zhao is a superb front court player in WD, one of the very few world's best at this role. But China has sufficient excellent WD players so no need for Zhao to take the double roles!

I doubt Bao and Zhong will ever play together again
Zhong cannot catch up with Bao's pace anymore after coming back from injury

Minor surgery... don't think it will affect her Rio chances unless her performance slides.

Yes, Wang Xiaoli was operated on her elbow to remove a few bone fragments on the 22nd May and will be discharged tomorrow (26th May). Not sure how long more her rehabilitation would take.

She was originally scheduled to play WD with Zhao Yunlei at the AUS Open but was forced to withdraw as a result. No mention at all about Rio, I think there's still time for her to catch up with the qualifications.

It will be a great irony if Tang Yuanting, de facto the brightest star in WD at present is unable to attend the WC :(

I hope one of her older compatriots will exchange her slot.

This is not going to happen. That article was just another sorry example of the badminton press.

TQ/ZYL did not show up for the Asia Championships and certainly won't play the WC, unless WXL cannot go and CBA wants some veteran presence in TQ/ZYL.

Rest assured that MJ/TYT will attend the WC. The remaining question is which of TQ/ZYL or WXL/YY will withdraw. Both pairs may withdraw and then, BYX/TJH will go to the WC as well.

If WXL skips AO, IO and WC, then she will not go to Rio for sure, right?

WC is nothing because WXL is not going to Rio with YY anyway. IO is also a non-issue because as the No 9 reserve pair, WXL/ZYL's chance to play at IO will be rather slim. Not getting any points from AO hurts, but it is just one tournament.

Overall, not much has changed for WXL's Rio prospect. If she returns to full strength and ZYL's body is holding up, WXL/ZYL can still make it to the top 8 and become a viable choice for Rio.

WXL's biggest problem is that WXL/ZYL has a paltry 582 points which will not qualify them for many SS tournaments. If this partnership is a candidate for Rio, they have to grab some points from GPG or even GP tournaments.

Depending on WXL's recovery, they may play at the Taipei GPG. The upcoming Taipei GPG M&Q Report will give a good indication on the fortune of this partnership.

WXL/ZYL's points are gone by this week, and back to notional points we go.

What a wonderful system! They should really look at this ranking points trap.

Now, they have to be careful with their next tournament. If WXL does not feel good, they should not play at all to avoid getting only the first or second round points and have problem entering future SS tournaments.

Roughly, if they don't have any tournaments (UC will be out of the 52-week window), their notional points are 80% of the average of their personal points.

If they have played 1 to 5 tournaments, the notional points are 2 times their actual points. If they have played 6 or 7 tournaments, the notional points are the actual points scaled up by 10/6 or 10/7, respectively.

It would be a tough decision. YY/WXL would have won the gold in London if not because of the coaches' dumb mistakes. YY, ZYL and TQ have won Olympics WD gold already. I think they will give WXL another chance.

TYT and BYX will go for sure. Then ends up WXL may partner with MJ to give them another shot.

Plenty of quality WD choices for CHN team, indeed too many that they may pose some dilemma:

    - TYT/MJ
    - TYT/BYX
    - WXL/MJ
    - TJH/TQ --> seeing the debutant, this pair also comes into the consideration :p
    ...

Some more tournaments then the WD pictures may get clearer which pairs will go to Rio.
Some key considerations are how soon will WXL have full recovery and be able to get back to court, and of course her outcomes in those tournaments. And will she get some preferential consideration in view of the mishap in the last Oly as mentioned by Qidong.
