    Badminton aces in love score

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian men's doubles shuttler Choong Tan Fook will be marrying his Chinese girlfriend Zhang Jiewen in January.

Zhang made the announcement at the first LG Cup Badminton Championship at Liwan Stadium in Guangzhou on Saturday.

The world champion doubles shuttler had attended the event as the competition advisor.

Zhang, 28, retired from the China national badminton team after the Beijing Olyimpics last year.

She was then assigned to her hometown to be deputy chief of the Guangzhou Badminiton Management Centre.

Choong, 33, and Zhang have been dating for five years despite their tight schedules which kept them apart often.

    'So difficult ah'

Their relationship was said to be one of the most inspiring in the world of badminton.

Choong and Zhang taking a break from their training session for the Proton Malaysian Open Super Series at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil early this year.

While planning for a romantic marriage proposal, the Perak-born Choong had secretly learnt to play the song Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo de Xin (The moon represents my heart) on the piano.

After four months of practice, he took Zhang on an outing and played her the song on the piano a few months ago.

Zhang was touched by his efforts but did not accept Choong's proposal.

"Find a Western restaurant, bring some flowers, a ring and play the song again. Kneel down and propose to me, then I will accept you,'' she told Choong and he replied: "So difficult ah?"

China Press reported that the couple will register the marriage in January but have yet to decide if they want to hold a ceremony for the occasion.
