Ho boy... that took me back. I think I may become an 890 recidivist after all; I hit one smash toward the end of the night that stopped play on the neighbouring court!
I did manage to put an absolute sitter out wide in the first game - forgot how much less cutty this stuff is than what I've been using lately, shuttle just slid off the bed when I tried to slice a drive.
Weird thing happened... I strung my buddy's JS12 with VS890s, and I came home over the weekend to find that the strings snapped with the racket just sitting there for a few days. Hasn't been used. Did anyone else have this problem with these strings? Kinda sucks cuz the break caused the racket to warp and crack while I was not home.
Yea... I remember I bought a reel of VS850 a few years back and they would snap as the string was being pulled on the machine... Having strung with Yonex and Ashaway... I never experienced this with their strings.
Had to open my gob, didn't I... Lunched a 30 lb set near the end of Session Three. Right in the middle. And I mean, it couldn't have been more in the middle: middle of the middle main. At least I know it was a clean hit. And VS890 goes in the bin for the third and final time. Never using it again. EVER.
Pshhhh we all know it's a perfect string. The problem must've been with the Shuttlecock! On a serious note, I think I got lucky with my packet.
It may not be the string, check the clamp and your hand tools such as plier, starting clamp and cutter. I once had similar experience later to discover that the external edge of the plier jaw is as sharp as a blade. It cut through a tiny bit of neighbouring string when I reached in to pull the string out at the 10 o'clock double grommet. The string snapped few hours later before taking any hit, and luckily it was on an Apacs 38lb tension frame.
The string coating is the issue. I've just gotten back 2 rackets with VS890 at 30/32lbs. There's already minor signs of fraying. Sent from my LG-H990 using Tapatalk
Pretty sure its not my tools. I have strung countless rackets with yonex and ashaway strings and something like this never happened before. I am pretty sure its the coating on the string. It was common in the VS800s I used a few years back.
Yonex and Ashaway I have strung up to 30x33 pounds, with 20% prestretch. I remember the VS800s had frayed easily when I strung it at 26-27.
Hahaha. I personally find it makes the tension last longer... I dont find myself cutting my strings before they break anymore. I remember stringing a racket at 30x33 with ashaway zm66fp, the tensioner stopped at roughly 40lb hahah...
I've tried this sting now for a few weeks directly comparing it to BG 80, both at 12,5 kp on the same Racket (Babolat Satelite Blast). It felt great from the start and kept a nice feeling. Control was good, just slightly worse (or maybe just different to ajust to, since I'm used to BG 80) than BG 80. Thanks to the rather rough surface, slices were easy and accurate. Repulsion and Power might be a little higher than BG 80, but overall they played quite similar, while feeling different. BG 80 felt way harder, but there was still enough feedback from VS 890. I didn't have any issues with premature snapping, but it startet to show fraying, when BG 80 still almost looked like new (I tried to spread my court-time equally). This was after about 3 weeks (per week: 1*practice/training (2h), 1*game (1 match MS, 1 match MD), 2 or 3 times just playing (something between 2 and 4 hours each time): According to Stringster, both rackets lost tension in a similar way and rate. But what i experienced (and regulat measurements via Stringster kinda proved this) is, that VS 890 is quite temperamental when it comes to changes in temperature. BG 80 took some time to settle and still feels the same and always felt the same over time, while VS 890 felt way softer when it was warmer again and harder again when it got colder. To me, this is a neckbreaker. I want consistency in my string. Now I'll have a go with Gosen G-Tone 5 (so far it's great).
