This one and the 'Professional players and their rackets' cover it quite well.

    Hey Mark,

What's your impression of Victor gear (racquets + string) now? I've seen your various reviews and opinions on the forum about Yonex stuff. Have you been converted?

I wish we could get the g6 handles as I find with my small hands I have to use certain colors of towel grip because some are thicker than others and too thick for me.

Btw, having reviewed the detailed stringing job posted by Mark, there were no players using Jetspeed 8 PS in AE2014.

(note that Liliyana used JS 8 ST in the semifinal though)

    1 player used Super Ti-17
    1 player used SW35

    1 player used MX80
    1 player used MX90

    1 player used BS11
    1 players used BS12 L

    2 players used TK9000
    3 players used TK8000

    8 players used BS12

I would have thought it was mostly vs850 they wanted, time to order a vs800 to try!

What's the asterisk next to Ko's tension?

I can't really comment on the new rackets because I haven't tested them yet (but I'm meeting with Paul some time in the next couple of weeks), but the new clothing and bags and shoes are outstanding - I don't think they could design a bad textile or luggage if they tried these days.

Ahmad did have an 8PS in his bag for the final, I think, but it never say any action.

It means we cocked it up the first time and had to do it again!

Shin dropped that racket off without a slip around the handle, so we assumed they both had the same tension (which struck me as odd, because Ko's racket definitely sounded looser). Later on, when more of Ko's rackets turned up, we saw the correct tension and had to cut the bugger out.

Both butet and owi wrap their grip up to the shaft. It would be hard to verify the code of their racket.

From the list, we noted that only KSH that was expressly written as KRP coded.

LiNing clothing is heaps better. And if you go to a tennis shop and look at the latest Nike gear, that stuff is light years ahead of the Victor stuff. They have their own wierd style which I find oddly attractive, but as technical garments they're rubbish. Same with the shoes - they're still copying Yonex and don't have any unique ideas of their own which I find a bit disappointing.

Plus they don't make them in size 13 so I have to hate them ;)

Another question for Mark/Paul, where you guys using pre-stretch (if so what percentage) on any of those string jobs?

Ah - I'd forgotten about this one!

We left p/s off for all rackets - none of the players asked for it, and it was safer for the frames that way.

I doubt they really care given how quickly they go through strings. It's only us mortals that really want our strings to last more than one match.

Exactly - they might use one racket per match, and that can often be 45 mins. And dial in the cooling-off period before the racket even reaches the player.

Ahmad used one of mine for a full match... until he broke it right near the end. They just don't care as much as some imagine they do.

They go through them so quickly they just want consistent tension. Patterns, methods etc mean nothing because they're not on there long enough anyway.
