Great coverage Chris. It was nice to see you again. Sorry we didn't get to talk much. Thanks for all the great photos and commentary. They should have made you the official reporter/photographer of the tournament. Something to think about for next year maybe? Oh, and the US Open will be held at OCBC again next year. Sorry for the bad info earlier. Hopefully I got it right this time. hehe. As for 2005, there wasn't an "official" US Open as the WC was held during that time, so the tourney held later was just called Yonex/OCBC. There was an All Star Game between the North and South California high school students held from 9am to 1pm during Friday and Saturday. This was the Inaugural event that is hopefully held again next year. The South team took the title this year. Thanks to Yonex for sponsoring this event. Also, someone earlier in the thread mentioned we should have the US open and the Canadian Open held close to each other to attract more players. Well, that's usually that case except for this year. The US Open was moved up because of the Olympics but the Canadian Open did not. Congratulations to all the winners!!!
Hey, I saw you at SG!!! lol. Lili went with some friends and ex students to play around after the finals.
Hmmppffhh.. ..why you, trying to pull a fast one on me, eh??..ckckckck....... But, i think we should share the wealth around, maybe have the U.S. Open be held in NorCal... Btw, thanks for a background info about that 2005 Yonex/OCBC International. But was it really called U.S. Open or the organizer didn't plan for it??....Because i saw the link on Wikipedia and they categorized the event as a U.S. Open, yet other links don't recognize it as so??... On helping out with the coverage, well, i was just helping out.....Daylightkiller was a big help and of course, the camera and lenses did all the work... As for next yr, i'll provide coverage ONLY IF our kwun comes down here be the tournament's official photographer!... On that note, i think i better start looking for the 200mm f/1.8 lens..... (that way, if i find it, kwun will have no excuse not to come down here)...
US open I am having trouble placing a name/face with the members who were at the US open. I was there 4 days. I usually hang out at the YONEX booth the entire time until hiro or the high end yonex people come to the tournament. I am friends with the two stringers, ALAN Kakinami and Kevin Yamaguchi. I stay with them every year when I go to the Nationals or the US Open. Where could I find pictures of the Members who were there without searching through thousands of posts? My name is AJ Lawson so you could just look me up on facebook.com or something. And thanks for all the photos ctjcad, it is nice to have them for memories. Being there in person is unreal. I didnt know that Bennie Lee owned BBC either, thats pretty cool. He is an amazing person. Gotta love badminton, unlike other sports you can go up to any elite player and have a normal conversation with them. They treat everyone as equals especially Howard Bach and Tony Gunawan. Thanks again for all the pictures hope to see a lot of members at next years nationals and US Open!
It's was officially called the Yonex/OCBC International, so no, it wasn't the US Open. Don't remember the exact reasoning as to why it wasn't held as the US Open, but I think it had something to do with the USAB. It would be nice to hold the US Open in NorCal, but where? And don't be so modest about the photos Chris, the equipment is only as good as the user. And thanks Daylightkiller for helping Chris. Hopefully next year will have some more international players so Mr. Kwun will be more inticed to come down to Orange County. Did anyone noticed Ardy Wiranata? It was a nice surprise to see him and his family as they just happened to be in SoCal on vacation and decided to stop by.
Hmm... ..i think i might've been confused and then confused you guys even more..... ..hmm, Ardy Wiranata & his family were there?? When?? On what day?? I know there weren't thousands of people, but i surely didn't see him. Thanks again for the re-confirmation on the name of that tourney, Paul. Anyway, i think i'll just re-phrase my earlier comments about Lili "winning her 2nd U.S. Open title in as many years" to "winning her 1st U.S. Open title, this yr"...Hope that'll clear up all the.......confusion..
Hi AJ.. Hi AJ, nice to know you were there at the tourney. I tried searching for you in facebook.com, but don't know which one is you?? There are many AJ Lawsons.. Anyway, if you do see a pic of yourself in the pics/slides, do mention it to us, as i might recognize you. Maybe next time, we can finally meet. As for sharing the pics with you guys, no problem & you got it.
More pics in these slide shows.. ...okay, i've finally put together a slide show and added some more pics to the already posted ones, in this thread...(these are all the pics).. Btw, thanks for the all the hard work taking the photos & being the roving reporter for us, esp Lee HK
Ardy was there either the on the semi-finals or finals, kinda forgot. I think it was the finals tho. Stanley Wo from NorCal showed up too.
Dang Polar Bears try to hit nice, gentle Panda with the shuttle, so violent! I'm very happy Halim (and Grace) did so well, congrats to Coach Halim!
There are no nice gentle pandas in SGVBC!! Must exterminate!!! =P I was just trying to get the shuttle away from me. Next time, pick on Carol then.
well, come back down and play. it's only a plane ride away. then the panda can have someone else to pick on.
Panda is nice, gentle, cute, loveable, squeezable and don't pick on polar bears. How could he? Polar Bear will get revenge and bring one of his big guns code name "Howard", "Bob", or "Halim" and Panda will get oWNED! ... It's not that fun picking Pete because he chooses "Option 3", it's more fun picking on PB. ... Back to the thread: Congrats to all the participants!
