What a turn of events since this thread first appeared in Oct 2008!

About three and a half years have passed and the current scenario of those players concerned remains:

    1. Li Li, our only Commonwealth Games WS gold medal winner, never returned to the Singapore national team. Her current status is unknown.

    2. Gu Juan has made up for lost time, worked really hard and is rewarded with an athlete's life-long dream to represent Singapore at the forthcoming London Olympics.

    3. But Zhang Beiwen continues to be lost in the wilderness despite her return to Singapore and given a second chance to remain on grounds of ill-discipline. She is now seeking her fortunes in the US and we could only wish her well.

There have been a change of officials and former All-England MS champion, Luan Jin, is the experienced chief coach in charge. The talented ZBW would have made great strides in her game had she remained in the team.

We hope that our remaining girls whom the SBA has so patiently cultivated, will do Singapore proud in the international arena in years to come.

I saw her at the Singapore Open. She is pregnant.

Fu Mingtian should have been selected since she managed to get a SEA Games gold medal. imho GJ is over-rated. She didnt even survive the first round of the Singapore Open. Will she be knocked out in the first round of the Olympics?

There are a few photos of ZBW in the US open. Not sure why is she still representing Singapore?

Currently, I believe that ZBW is still carrying her Singapore passport.

    1. It's good to know that Li Li is going to be a mother-to-be. I trust she still enjoys her life in Singapore.

    2. To be fair to Gu Juan, her overall performance in the past was slightly better than FMT's. Of course FMT became a SEA Games queen and rightly rewarded with the Sportswoman of the Year. I wish FMT had performed better to be at least WR16 before the Olympics cut-off date. Then we would have two representatives. Gu's R1 opponent, Porntip from THA, in this year's S'pore Open is a tough player whom Gu has found difficulty to play against in the past. But Gu has to improve beyond R1.

    3. ZBW is still a Singapore citizen and it was only right that she be indicated as coming from Singapore. She is not representing Singapore but did so on a personal basis.
