DRAW : https://bwfextranet.com/docs/events..._ DRAW _Updated Tuesday, 19th June 2018_.XLSX

Third BWF tournament that takes place in Thailand capital after World Tour Super 300 and major event Thomas-Uber Cup. A unfavourable time-slot for this event as World Championships is looming and scheduled right after two higher level world tours, MAS Open 750 & just concluded INA Open 1000 but fortunately some top gun mainly from Japan still show up in Bangkok as warming up tournament ahead to Nanjing.

Men's Singles
  • A weak line-up following the withdrawal of current top-10 players, two Chinese aces Shi Yuqi-Chen Long and Indian number one Kidambi Srikanth.
  • Other seeded players remain in the fray, H.S. Prannoy, Kenta Nishimoto, Kazumasa Sakai, Sameer Verma
  • The resurgent Tommy Sugiarto who looks in good shape to revive his badminton career and strings of young talents may spring some upsets to steal the show
Women's Singles
  • World number one Tai Tzu Ying and Olympic Champion Carolina Marin are among the high profiles who miss THA Open alongside with Sung Ji Hyun and China on-fire youngsters Chen Yufei-He Bingjiao.
  • All Japanese top-ranked are drawn in same half of-draw while Pusarla Sindhu and home challengers occupy the opposite side
  • Intriguing opening clash will pit Akane Yamaguchi and China promising star Gao Fangjie and looking forward to INA Open rematch, Ratchanok Intanon versus Gregoria Mariska.
Men's Doubles
  • MAS Open Super 750 champion Kamura/Sonoda and Taiwanese duo Lee JH/Lee Y occupy top two seeds
  • Japan and Chinese Taipei pairs dominate MD drawing and will be engaged for title contention in the absence of most of top echelon pairs
Women’s Doubles
  • Who can stop Japan formidable squad? It’s hard to see that Polii/Rahayu, Stoeva sisters or local favourite Kititharakul/Prajongjai to stem 5 Japanese seeded pairs to clinch WD crown on Sunday
  • A big chance to witness another rematch of Fukushima/Hirota versus Matsutomo/Takahashi in semifinal here.
Mixed Doubles
  • The Adcock alongside with third seed Wang CL/Lee CH will be pre tournament favourite to face off in semifinal. Two Indonesian revamped combinations, Suwardi/Susanto and Jordan/Oktavianti may twist the plot.
  • All England Champion Watanabe/Higashino and home hopeful Puavaranukroh/Taerattanachai are slated to meet in last eight while INA Open semifinalist Faizal/Widjaja have possible meeting with recent CAN Open Super 100 winner Ellis/Smith.
*Player's withdrawal :
MS : Shi Yuqi (CHN), Kidambi Srikanth (IND), Chen Long (CHN), Wang Tzu Wei (TPE)
WS : Saina Nehwal (IND), Chen Xiaoxin (CHN)
MD : Chai B/Wang ZK (CHN), Kedren/Puavaranukroh (THA), Ellis/Langridge (ENG)
WD : Ghorpade/Sawant (IND), Kusumah/Sugiarto (INA)

looking on MAS Lee Zii Jia clash against Chen Long for the first time, unfortunately it is not happening after the latter has withdrawn from this tournament...

Why Lee/Lee didn't play in Malaysia Open and Indonesia Open but play in Thailand Open?
I thought top 15 pairs were all obliged to play all Super 750 and Super 1000?

Top-15 for singles players and top-10 doubles players are classified as Top Committed Players according to BWF regulation.

So many withdrawals in short notice.
Injuries or fatigues perhaps?[/QUOTE .

Malaysian open, Indonesian open, Thailand open, Singapore open, all back to back to back to back to back, plus the world championship is starting at the end of the month. You do the maths.

It's not like all the players who withdrew played in both Malaysia or Indonesia Open.
For instance, Chen Long lost in R1 both tournaments, I don't think he would be too tired or fatigued to play?

Risk of injury, fatigue, preparing for upcoming world championship, more or less are the main reasons.

He has done so badly, they dare not risk him anymore.

Lee Yang/Lee JH had been registered in MAS open and INA Open but somehow they had been withdrawn on May 22 and May 28.

And yes, they were rank No.7 at the time MAS Open and INA Open registration period, hence they're still included as Top Committed Players. They probably got injured otherwise they should pay the fine.

The schedule is really insane that forcing all top-ranked players skip two Super 500 tours.

Yup, back to back first round exit, doubtedly his confidence would be back in-time at WC.

Well, most JPN players are still there. I guess they thought it was on the way home anyway.

Minus Kento Momota, but surely they will miss next week SGP Open Super 500.
The time-slot is so abnormal and very hectic particularly for Asian shuttlers who also will take part AG, team and individual event.

Lu Kai's result has been underwhelming after splitting away from Huang Yaqiong.
Maybe he and Chen Lu can beat the current All England champions to get at least his confidence back.

Meanwhile, Tan/Lai, nothing to wrote off, most likely lose early again, after again.

They are close to winning the match.

Wow Lu/Chen won over Watanabe/Higashino in 3 games.

XD Lu Kai/Chen Lu booted out the AE Champions JPN Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino ?! What a upset.

Lu Kai, ever since he split with (lost) his usual partner Huang Yaqiong, has been struggling to find his footing with a new partner, Chen Lu. He must be feeling stressed trying hard to make his mark again. Hope this tournament is it.

Lu and new younger partner did it, Watanabe/Higashino wasted their big chance, two points away to seal second round ticket but they couldn't make it.

Meanwhile, Tan/Lai, nothing to wrote off, most likely lose early again, after again.

What's wrong with this pair? They couldn't pass opening round in last 5 tournaments.
Meanwhile home favourite Puavaranukroh/Taerattanachai were given hard times by Taiwanese duo Lee Y/Hsu YC, 19-21 / 21-10 / 21-17.
