TotalEnergies BWF WORLD Championships 2021 : R/64-Final (12-19 December)

WOW....Massive Congratulations to Loh Kean Yew for winning the Gold Medal in the BWF World Championships 2021! An amazing feat despite being drawn with the reigning Olympic Champion and World No 1 Viktor Axelsen in the first round. The subsequent 5 matches were all wrapped up in straight-sets, 4 of them in less than 45 mins!

He is surely now aiming for the Paris Olympics 2024 and other big titles like the All-England Open next year!

Other players will be thinking"how on earth is this guy from Singapore suddenly become the World Champion?". He barely even made it to the Tokyo Olympics this year!

Loh Kean Yew is World Champion. What an achievement for the kid.

Got to feel bad for Srikanth Kidambi, that backhand push into the net at 20-20 is gonna haunt him for years!

I am still proud of the skill KS brought today, too much skill but too many mistakes as well!!
This is not a humiliating loss, a loss to be proud of, a loss that will make you hungry. A loss like LCW loss.

Oh for sure, Srikanth exceeded all expectation at this WC. He did what he needed to do to win the upper half bracket, given the withdrawals in the upper half bracket.

Coming into the finals today, I had LKY as the favorite to win, despite his lower seeding than Srikanth. So for me, I expected LKY to win today before the match started.

It's a shame though that Srikanth couldn't fix his tendency to make so many unforced errors. It cost him in this finals. Srikanth has the skill to win it all, but his errors cost him at the end of the day.

I think Loh has hurt his ankle, in that long rally he looked really static. Something is up.

Seems like he's got some tape around the foot area just peaking over the top of his sock. Wouldn't be surprised if it's a minor strain considering how explosive he is.

Because Olympics competition is not the strongest.

KS lost not because of Loh pace but cause of his own mistakes. Only player who could trouble Loh in this tournament.
He did trouble LKY at the net. But I’m still a little puzzled on why LKY didn’t go all out in g2

Even if this turns out the only big title Loh Kean Yew wins, it is worth all the effort and accolade!
The training and flying all these months have certainly paid off.

His World Ranking will likely go up to the top 16 and if he continues his amazing feat, next year, he should break into the top 8, which is actually not an easy feat by itself as he is still going to be unseeded in the Super 500 tourneys and above; and will likely face top 8 opponents early on.

Why is everyone giving Viktor Axelsen credit for LKY's immense improvement and form? LKY is coached by Mulyo who was the one who coached Taufiq Hidayat and Kidambi in 2017.

So after Loh Kean Yew's historic win, Singapore is technically ahead of Malaysia in World Championships.

Based on medal table, Malaysia is the "champion" in collecting silver and bronze metal scraps.

To Malaysian badminton shuttlers, sports ministers and BAM management. YOU ALL SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF

Reflect and Fix up before even an African or South American badminton player will win the world champ one day.
