I think only in wd japan has clear advantage to win gold, in md and xd, only miracle help them to gold, in ms and ws, they have chance with in form momota and defending champion okuhara, but with so many strong opponents, 2 gold medal is realistic goal for them
Realistically, arrogance should be China aiming for anything more than 1 gold (from XD bcos defending Champions pulled out)... LOL, Japan haven't really started dominating badminton yet and the "Japan vs Rest Of the World" hate has already begun -- are we suppose to root for China as the underdogs already?
The Adcocks came in a week earlier for practise-competition against a provincial team and lost (to Wang Zhengming, former national MS now playing XD) -- I hope they are saving themselves for the "real thing", like Chen Long has been doing this whole year...;P
What, Chochuwong Pornpawee gave a walkover to Yip Pui Yin ?! In my opinion,CP is a young up-and-comer who is capable of an upset or two.
Logically and realistically, yes. CHN have not been on a good roll now, maybe one of the worst time. All sector is CHN as the underdog, the are not the top dog anymore.
I think it's good when athletes sometimes trash talk their opponent. It will widening awareness of the match, just like the Late M. Ali always did in boxing. After heard about mathias boe tip to beat kevin/marcus, my friends who were not badminton enthusiast always anticipate every time they meet up.
I find it dull and belittling to be honnest but to each his own. That’s just not my vision of an athlete’s behaviour who competes in an olympic sport.
Boe tipping is not the same as trash talking. It's one thing when the athletes do it though I would rather they wouldn't but for the supporters or outsider to do the trash talking is another different story. This is not boxing nor pro wrestling, we don't need the players calling each other names. And to talk down the opponents when you obviously don't have the ability to do it is just plain stupid and pathetic too, in my opinion.
i think i don't make my point quite clear, then. Let me give an example. There are 3 kind of people right now. People who love kevin, people who hate him, and people who don't care about him. let say he tell journalist: " I'm gonna be world Champion. I'm gonna beat Zhang Nan in less than 30 minutes". well, I don't think people who love him will stop watching him even if the game last to 2 hours. people who hate him will still hate him no matter what he said. and people who don't care about him will start to interested and watch, maybe hoping he is failed. The point is, that statement will surely make the match more interesting to people outside his base fan and haters.
Actually, I understand your point of view. Kevin has the talent to pull that off. But people's concern here is that it is Unprecedented in the History of our sports. Nobody, not even Lin Dan, has talked **** about his opponent, UFC style, before the match. I think this will make Kevin a far more polarising figure than he might like to be.
The other thing is that it will put an insane amount of Pressure on Marcus Gideon Fernaldi., To beat Zhang Nan under 30 minutes would require 100/100 performance form MGF. So, he might be one of the reason why Kevin is not crossing THAT line at the moment. Because I definitely think Kevin seriously believes he can outskill, outspeed and outfox Zhang Nan.
No it won't make anything more interesting at all. It might arouse you or some people, but I won't like it at all. Stop using Kevin as an example of a controversial figure. He is not the kind of person who would ever say that. Don't make imaginary situation that would cause more misunderstanding. I love Kevin because he never boasts nor talk down his opponents. He might act all mighty on the court but that is because he takes every opponent seriously and believes that any pair can beat him and Markus anytime if they ever let down their guard. Kevin actually regards Zhang Nan as one of the most threatening and greatest player around, he respects him so not even a slight bit Kevin ever thinks he is better than Zhang Nan.
No, Kevin doesn't think so at all, on the contrary he thinks and always speaks very highly of Zhang Nan. Why do you think Kevin always target Liu Cheng whenever they play against each other? I know many people dislike him for his demeanours on court, but he really is not that kind of person.
Kevin havent played and already much discussion ? lol.. imagina if he lost? Didnt even see him in press conference or trashtalking... is he even in Nanjing ?!!?!
if he lost I can already imagine how you gonna say that WC is overrated and that AE is better anyway.
It's too bad that Chochuwong must skip major event but she's still young, many chances to come. Thanks for the info
