Wow another upset is about to happen in today men doubles as well. Seems like it is a trend now. The Taiwanese pair just won the second set against world ranking no 2 Danish player 23-21. Another upset? Yes I can smell it already. This Taiwanese pair is a youngster with low world ranking of course.

Sad Lee Hyun Il has given up his place. Then this piece of article makes me feel so sad. Looks very likely now Shin Baek Cheol needs to break his promise as he definitely cannot be the World Championship MD gold medallist now. His hope to defend the title is dashed.

JAKARTA: Doubles shuttler Shin Baek-cheol had to skip badminton for the most part of this year because of a mandatory Korean military training.

But the "break" had only made him stronger on the court.

In only his second tournament this year at the Indonesian Open in June, he won the men's doubles title with Ko Sung-hyun at Istora Senayan.

And he has vowed to enjoy another magical run in Indonesia by becoming the first Korean pair to defend the world title - a feat that even past greats like Park Joo-bong-Kim Moon-soo and Ha Tae-kwon-Kim Dong-moon had failed to do.

Joo-bong-Moon-soo won it twice (1985 and 1991) while Tae-kwon-Dong-moon won it once in 1999. And if Baek-cheol's determination is anything to go by, Malaysia's Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong are set to face a torrid time.

Baek-cheol-Sung-hyun have received a first round bye and their first opponents here will likely be the Malaysians on Wednesday.

V Shem-Wee Kiong is expected to come through their first round match on Tuesday - against America's Phillip Chew-Sattawat Pongnairat.

"It was not easy to make a comeback after taking a break from badminton to attend the military training. “Many adjustments have to be made. But my friends have made it easy for me by giving good support in training," said Baek-cheol.

"Sung-hyun and I started playing together just more than a month ago... but we are shaping up well. We will go all out to defend the title," he added.

South Korea will also be banking on their top seeds Lee Yong-dae-Yoo Yeon-seong and Kim Gi-jung-Kim Sa-rang to make this year's world meet one of the most memorable.

Korea is surely to secure a place to QF now as it will be Lee Yong Dae / Yoo Yeon Seong vs Kim Gi Jung / Kim Sa Rang tomorrow. Lee / Yoo is sure to win the match tomorrow and advanced to the QF. After that their future remains dangling as Shin Baek Cheol / Ko Sung Hyun who played better than them has already lost today.

Before I forget congratulations to Goh V Shem / Tan Wee Kiong for winning the match today and creating the biggest upset ever in this WC. Wow last time during the Sudirman Cup group stage match, both created a huge upset by winning over Lee Yong Dae / Yoo Yeon Seong.

Looks like now both of them are set to create more upsets for this tournament.

No upset created this time as Denmark Mathias BOE / Carsten MOGENSEN world ranking no 2 player safely won the third set of the match 21-8.

I am wondering asthe fate of the rest of MAS MD pairs besides GVS/TWK. MAS virtually has none. The rest have quit the BAM. Unlike MD, MAS WD are thriving with 3 pairs in the World Championship.

    Any thought?
