hi all.. i was wondering if any of you here are members of a toronto high school badminton team or if you know if there will be any actual play this year between schools. thanks
Hmm, i've never heard of schools going to other schools and facing the team. I think it's all tournys.
There are ROPSA tournaments and other than that, there might be friendly games within schools but nothing that can be compared to basketball or volleyball . Too bad seeing that this is a better sport...
the b/w school games are smaller, therefore not necessary broadcast out.... but my friend is a badminton coach for a high school team, so I can go in n' out as I please.... but other than that, TDCAA (the private school division) has an annual tourney b/w all the many different schools.... usually held in April.... also I think there is also the local school district has a tourney for all the schools around the same time as the TDCAA, then afterwards it is OFSAA....
takahira, i believe u are right. during tryouts, the coach mentioned something similar, though i probably should have been paying more attention..
keke the official badminton seasons start this wedesday ^^. So happy . That means around 4-5 days of badminton per week!
bad student there mate.... hohohoho.... jokes.... well, I help my friend coach her team every so often near tourneys, so I had to pay attention to the dates and such....
well, in my school there are badminton tryouts happening right now so i guess there are going to be school games happening throughout the schools of TDSB. It just depends is your school within the district of TDSB...
Lucky... The TDSB has games between schools? The Peel regional only has ROPSAA where a whole bunch of schools get together and play :crying: . Still fun though
Maybe you guys should state what school you attend so we can have an idea. I go to York Memorial, TDSB.
There ARE interschool badminton games according to some of my friends from York Region schools facing each other. Is OFSAA as difficult as people say it is? Because if OFSAA is one level about TDCAA and YRDAA, then I wouldn't think they're that great cuz the YRDAA and TDCAA champs were held at my school last year (Pierre Elliott Trudeau H.S.) As far as what I saw during that tourney, everyone there wasn't all that good although there were many notables.
thing is though you have to account for there are other schools in other cities like Sudbury and etc.... and the yr I went to OFSAA, the #1 ranking Men's Single was from North Bay or somewhere around there.... hahaha.... so yea....
well, let's think about this logically... 1) this is HIGH SKEWL level... not provincial.. thus even if i can barely hit the bird, it is possible for me to go to ofsaa as long as no one else in my region can hit the bird... 2) you are only allowed to play ONE event.... if you go to provincials, almost all the players play 2 if not all 3 events... thus you will not see all the good players playing each other because they are spread out among the events 3) you may only partner with someone from your skewl... how many provincial level players go to the same skewl as their partner?? i'd say very few... 4) conflicts of schedule.... very often, a qualifier tournament, or ofsaa itself would conflict with some say... nationals.... now would you rather win nationals (if you had the potential) or would you rather win a high skewl tournament? on a side note - you must be an excellent player to look down on the york region championships... seeing as how the york region male singles champion placed 2nd at ofsaa... and he was only "notable"
TDCAA is now for Catholic schools only. They kicked out the private schools who formed their own league, CISAA...which sucks...
Well I'm not saying I'm the best, but I was helping out for the event and there definitely were amazing players, but overall, alot of the players were not to the standard I thought they were. To compare with one of the area meets I went to for YRDAA, I'd say that area meet was tougher than the YRDAA. Not to knock down anyone, but based on what I saw. For all I know, I could have been just watching the wrong games at the wrong times I guess. Hehe, what you say is very true and I'm glad you cleared that up for me.
