No problemo for Pelatnas. Pelatnas also is a unpredictable of unstable organisation. What they want is only to win nothing more. If Chandra can contribute a gold, they will allow him to play regardless whom is his partner.

Qualifying for Worlds is bit of a complex and confusing process; and IBF so far had not followed it completely either. The process is in the IBF Statutes which is in the IBF website. Off the top of my head it goes like this (pardon me if there is an error in this):

Total of sixty four pairs are selected based on the World Ranking of a pre defined date and the criteria identified. If any of the invited players decline their invitations then following the same process next eligible pairs are invited until 64 spots are filled or all the pairs in the world ranking list (entries) are exhausted.

    (1) First, the top 8 pairs according to the World Ranking are considered. These eight pairs will be invited, except each country is allowed only 4 pairs.

2)After that, from world rank 9 to 24 are considered, and invitations are made to these pairs, but not to exceed 3 pairs from any one particular country. If there were three pairs in the top 8 then no further invitations will be made to the pairs from that country unless one of those pairs declines the IBF invitation, and they are eligible at step 5 if they get invited in step (5).

3)Then, the remaining spots upto 64 will be filled by considering pairs ranked from 25 to 150; except, now the number of pairs from each country can not exceed a total of 2. So if there were 2 pairs from one country were in the steps (1) or (2), no additional pairs from that country will be invited. [ not a very good criteria; because the 2 pairs invited from a country may decline the invitations received, but the pairs below those 2 pairs from that country may not get an invitation if they are not lucky enough to survive until the step (5) of this process, although other pairs below them in the World Ranking list could be invited in the step (3) or in step (4) of this process]

    4) If the 64 spots are not filled following the above 3 steps, then all the pairs from 25 all the way down to the last ranked pair is considered to fill the remaining spots, except now a maximum of 3 pairs can be invited from each country. So if you were a third pair from a country that did not receive an invitation during step (3), this pair is elegible to get an invitation in this step. :)confused: very confusing!!! )

    5) This process should continue until all the eligible world ranked teams are exhausted (i.e., all the world ranked pairs have either declined or accepted the IBF invitations to take part in the Worlds) or the 64 spots are filled with accepted invitations. This is one of the steps the IBF had not been fulfilling, because as we all could see there were empty spots in the draw as "BYEs" while there were many athletes remaining with a world ranking who may have wanted to participate and who were eligible to get invited based on the IBF Statutes, but did not get an invitation because of the IBF's failure to provide a selection mechanism to comply with the statutes. The IBF used a three phase mechanism which had been a miserable failure in its compliance to the statutes to pick 64 pairs/players according to the player selection criteria to the Worlds that are in the IBF statutes.

By the way I agree with the postings which indicated, that the current process allows players from different countries to play as a pair but each country loses 1/2 a spot because of that.

When a country loses 1/2 a spot for their entries to the Worlds, for all practical purposes that is a full spot, because it is highly unlikely that the same country will have another player playing with a player from a different country and that pair is invited to the Worlds by the IBF.

Boy, it sure looks and sounds complicated..

dropper, appreciate for giving your explanation of the IBF/BWF WC Qualification process for rest of us not familiar with it...
Yah, agree, hope for next yr's QC, BWF can allow Tony/Candra to play eventhough they represent different countries..Sorry for snipping rest of article for brevity, as i only scanned thru them to read. I will read them again to somehow digest it..hehe..But from what you wrote it's quite a complicated process indeed!  :p :D ;) ).
