i'm in total agreement.. besides that, the badminton world championship will be held every year except Olympic year, hence the eligibility of players to compete in the Olympic should at least be in accordance of the world championship regulations..
Just beating Gade won't be enough, presuming that Vittinghus (who is at #16 at the moment) will beat his opponent Jen Hao Hsu in the QF today For Shon Wan Ho to be qualified... he will need to do ALOT of hard work. I think his performance in the next few tournaments like Indonesian and Singaporean will be crucial for him... He needs to perform better than the few players ranked above him in all these to overtake them and be in top 16 to qualify Against Gade. If SWH wins he will be against Chen Jin... which unfortunately he would probably lose to... so what he has to look at now is getting as far as he can in SS tournaments (getting to QF or SF) and also get some small points off GP tournaments and try get as much points as he can I hope he can qualify as well. Good luck Wan Ho!
I think IOC place greater emphasis on more country participation and then competitors reaching a minimum standard. Not much BWF can do about that. So you'll have to get yourself into IOC to effect a change. The same happens in football - they have the U23 rule so...
Well, that is the opposite of the fundamental principle of the Olympic games. The olympics is about sport for all and participation without boundaries. http://www.olympic.org/Documents/olympic_charter_en.pdf
Congratulations to the Korean pair Jung Kyung Eun / Kim Ha Na, London welcome you both. Well done, you finally made it.
MAS aunties were already over the hill. It will be just a reward for their past contributions if they had qualified. Wasting money.
I thought also the Korean #2 WD already secured their ticket to London, but unfortunately not yet. After winning in Semifinal Saturday evening, Jung Kyung Eun / Kim Ha Na place WR #8. But, today they may slip to #9, if Bao Yixin / Zhong Qianxin are crowned India SS. Then, the Chinese will be unexpectedly in top 8 by end of OG qualification period.
we've finally come to the end of the qualification period. my preliminary calculations shown the ins and outs compare with last week are;

 IN OUT

MS KOR Shon Wan Ho IND Ajay Jayaram

IND Parupalli Kashyap TPE Hsueh Hsuan Yi

TPE Hsu Jen Hao EST Raul Must

WS LTU Akvile Stapusaityte THA Porntip Buranaprasertsuk

MD THA Bodin Issara / Maneepong Jongjit INA Markis Kido / Hendra Setiawan

WD JPN Miyuki Maeda / Satoko Suetsuna JPN Shizuka Matsuo / Mami Naito

KOR Jung Kyung Eun / Kim Ha Na MAS Eei Hui Chin / Pei Tty Wong

6 out of the 7 gained qualification with good results at the last tournament, not much more can be asked from them. Akvile Stapusaityte (LTU) got in thro the back door as Porntip Buranaprasertsuk (THA) dropped out of the top 16 by 400 points. and poor Kido/Setiawan missed out by 61 points!!!
