I didnt watched the final group match, but did watch the final..... I have been watching Indian hockey for 18 years now. (Since Bangkok Asiad) and this is the best they have ever played. Bangkok final and 2003-2004 HCTs were also good. Bronze in HWL, Silver in HCT (after dominating the mighty Kookaburras for every second of 60 minutes. The score could well have been 5-2 India in regulation time, had Sreejesh not kept well and our attackers did half as well as Rani Rampal).... Good omen for Gold at Rio..... Jai Ho!!!
Exactly, they were positive throughout and the Ozzies were taken aback by their sheer confidence, I wish we eventually converted atleasted one of those Circle penetrations also that "official complaint" was bullsh*t although the "obstruction" by Sreejesh was unfortunate ! Nevertheless a great performance against the W#1. Gold would be too much to expect I just wish we manage to top our group (Ned would be tricky and Ger will be more vigilliant this time). BEL is a mystery to me, I would be glad if we avoid playing them
We have been dominating Ger since 2013-2014.... Erstwhile minnows Bel has been kicking our arses since 2011 CC Finals..... And Holland has always been Aus to us
Exactly even I am expecting 0. Jitu is closest although if Heena and Apurvi keeps calm they have as good chances as anybody else. Wrestling and Shooting is all that we have, hockey suddenly is promising a medal (silver/bronze), none to badminton, archery Women team is one of my hope (Deepika does crap at OGs). Even if we don't get many I hope somehow a gold comes to our kitty!
He Heena wont even make the finals, just like all the archers and Anirban Lahiri; though each of them are in my upper limit of 22.... Heena never performs in front of crowds.... a bigger mental midget than Kash.... Abhinav, Gagan and any of the pistol shooters have a better shot.... BTW the Blue Sticks will rise up to W#2 if we win Gold and Holland finishes 4th or worse. I will be more surprised if Aditi Ashok finishes below 25 than if she wins a medal at 17. Will stick my neck out and put money on her finishing T11-T18
Have been following Olympics since 1996... In 96 and 00 expected 1 and 2 (Hockey in ATL + Hockey and Gopi in Syd).... Wont blame myself since I was 7 and 11.... Didn't expect anything of Lee-Hesh in Syd since they had broken up and faced Woodies early IIRC..... Then unheralded Nestor won the event with some journeyman.... Since 2000 have only expected once, 2012 Mary Kom Gold..... (Athens build-up was extremely muted, we were in worse form than we are now.... Nothing sums up our situation better than the fact that our only hope was Anju Bobby George, (who should be awarded the silver retrospectively since everyone above her were caught doping later) We were in worse form in Athens leadup, than we are now) Clearly our cumulative haul of 1-3-6 in the last three, has out done my expectations 10-fold.... Similarly this year, I do not expect anything, after all we don't have Bolt, Phelps or Kookaburras or Marin playing for us.. Prerequisite for expectations, But I will have hopes from everyone with proven pedigree (bar Shiva and Mary, who are bound to be cheated out of their events); even rank long-shots like Vikas Gowda and Inderjit Singh.... The person who has disappointed the most has to be Vinesh Phogat.... She hasn't capitalised on her early promise unlike Mary or Saina or Kunjurani....She should have been beating/decimating Japan consistently by now, yet she keeps on losing (or not winning 10-0) to countries like CHN, MGL and the two Koreas Had Summer Olympics been in 2014, I would have expected 3 medals and atleast 1 Gold via Jitu and Vinesh.... But they arent at their peaks now, so hope is all I have.
@nilesh123 India at majors since London 2012 2012 HCT 4th 2012 ACT 2nd 2013 AC 2nd 2013 HWL 6th 2014 CWG 2nd 2014 HWC 9th 2014 AG 1st 2014 HCT 4th 2015 SASC 3rd 2015 HWL 3rd 2016 SASC 2nd 2016 HCT 2nd Always in contention barring the WC... 10/12 tourneys, we reached atleast SFs.... #JustSaying
Mary qualified? Lol I would never expect even tin from our golfers, I have been following young Aditi for quite some time but I don't "expect" much from her! I have a gut feeling "HEENA WILL DO IT" also Apurvi and Ayonika will be close shaves, all the man shooters (except Praksh) have equal chances! Just praying Deepika keeps calm and SN gets a favourable draw
No she hasn't. But will get the tripartite invitation hands down, given the TRPs she will bring for IOC and sponsorship she brings for AIBA.
@nilesh123 Last I checked, day 7 results wernt uploaded... but 4 more mukkebaaz on the verge to Rio... Dev, Manoj, VK and Sumit.... Hope Shiva turns pro post Rio. Has age on his side to do well globally ala Amir Khan or dare I say, Mayweather... Will post the qualifier list officially past 3 digits... Had we built up on Melbourne, Beijing, Delhi and London; that number could have been 150. :-( Nevertheless a start.
Heena fail miserably in Baku, Gagan managed every shot at 10+ but very stiff competition n he finished 6th, while Abhinav finished 7th! 2 boxers qualified (Manoj n Vk) (what about devendro?)IMO Mary denied of WC Rooting for gold(hockey) in Valencia next week!
Apurvi failed miserably, Pooja merely missed the bronze by 0.2 Heena did fab by leading the qualification in precision, rapid still to go ! Jitu doesn't look in form
Deepika shot 6s and 7s at WC... Dev lost out... 98 so far... Golf, athletics in July plus tripartite.
Devndro won bronze but failed to qualify (1-2) in a hard fought n 'course harshpy judged contest VK gave walkover n Manoj lost, Sumit's hopes in vain as the Russian star gave a WO too in SF..... We dare not expect anything from the boxers lol Imp day at ISSF Baku WC
Jitu picked up silver in 50m, he was doing fab throughout few shots towards the end and nerves caught up, Heena should follow too, her rapid is a lil concern! Nonetheless atleast now India won't come empty handed! China doing very well, I personally expected Korea to top!
