Double trouble in Men's Doubles, top two seeds ousted

Korean best hope Lee YD/Yoo YS must end their dream to create hat-trick here as they lost narrowly to local pair yesterday. Bad fortune for Indonesia camp in this Premier event, following Ahmad/Natsir shocking defeat at first round, another Indonesian best hopeful Ahsan/Setiawan continued their negative trend, this time stunned by home back up pair Wang Yilu/Zhang Wen.

As expected two big matches in MS category will draw attention this evening, Dane new star Viktor Axelsen will challenge home favourite Chen Long and second seed Jan O Jorgensen has former world number one Lee Chong Wei. Axelsen had tough battle to clear two HKG players, Wei Nan and Vincent Wong at previous rounds while Chen L breezed past his early rounds opponent. The Danish hotshot always trouble the world champion in their last three meetings even he had chance to upset his calibre opponent in Odense meeting last month. Lee CW was forced to play extra game by TPE #1 Chou TC and still favourite to overcome Jorgensen. Often dubbed as badminton living legend, Lin Dan will up against the resilient Hu Yun and one remanining quarterfinal tie will pit Korean #1 Son WH against the qualifier and home promising talent Shi Yuqi who stunned two familiar names, Tago and Lee DK en route to his first ever last eight spot in top tier tournament.

All top contenders sailed into quarters, defending champion Saina Nehwal who displayed sluggish performance to edge out Tee JY will face solid-defensed Japanese WS, Nozomi Okuhara. The Chinese trio start to find heavyweight opponent, Wang Yihan v TPE skillful Tai Tzu Ying, Li Xuerui v the in-form Sung Ji Hyun and Wang Shixian has the toughest hurdle to go further, none but remarkable Carolina Marin. On paper scenario, Li Xuerui has better chance to secure semifinal spot than her two compatriots.

The unexpected result surged Men's Doubles department when top two seeds were sent packing at same stage by local boys. Former World Junior Champion, Li JH/Liu YC stopped Lee YD/Yoo YS winning streak while their teammate Wang YL/Zhang W stunned reigning world champion Ahsan/Setiawan earlier. These two giant-killers will meet another elite pairs in last eight, Wang YL/Zhang W v Japan top-ranked Endo/Hayakawa and Li JH/Liu YC v former world champion Ko SH/Shin BC, rematch of KOR GP Gold semifinal last week. Last year besten finalist, Chai B/Hong W will up against Hashimoto/Hirata and former champion Boe/Mogensen has Kim GJ/Kim SR to hunt semifinal berth.

Chinese WD has secured final ticket as their four pairs rule the bottom half of draw and will face each other at quarterfinal round, Huang DP/Ou DN v Tang YT/Yu Y and Tian Q/Zhao YL v Luo twin sisters. At upper-half draw, top seed Matsutomo/Takahashi has recent SEA Games gold medalist, Anscelly/Soong FC who surprised one of current Korean leading WD, Jung KE/Shin SC. European finest, Pedersen/Juhl will be tested by Chang YN/Lee SH.

Four Chinese pairs in XD quarterfinal, two local leading combinations Zhang N/Zhao YL and Xu C/Ma J have the upperhand against Jordan/Susanto and Nohr/Thygesen who eliminated their more fancied opponent at second round, Ko SH/Kim HN and Lu K/Huang YQ respectively. At lower half of draw, current Japan SS winner Fischer/Pedersen will take on local qualifier Liu YC/Ou DN and fourth seed Liu C/Bao YX has English couple Adcock/Adcock to eye semifinal spot, the latter should be close contest.

LIVE TV (court 1, 05.00pm local time) matches :

    1) Chen Long (CHN) v Viktor Axelsen (DEN)
    2) Chris Adcock/Gabrielle Adcock (ENG) v Liu Cheng/Bao Yixin (CHN)
    3) Hirokatsu Hashimoto/Noriyasu Hirata (JPN) v Chai Biao/Hong Wei (CHN)
    4) Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi (JPN) v Amelia Alicia Anscelly/Soong Fie Cho (MAS)
    5) Saina Nehwal (IND) v Nozomi Okuhara (JPN)

just as I predicted, all MAS player except LCW & WD Amelia Alicia Anscelly/Soong Fie Cho (never expect they made it) failed to past R16, especially the MD department, Koo/Tan no need to command as I already know their fate there, only not cool is GVS/TWK, who recently change their own chinese character name (in order to change their luck) supposing can beat the Danes BoMo when they got 1st game win, but then in 2nd game they started making classical mistakes, thus made BoMo have the chance to win it and then end the match in rubber...

Quarter Final for Thaihot China Open 2015

    Women's Single:
Out of 8 placing, 7 are seeded players with only Ratchanok been beaten by Nozomi in the first round. Many good matches in today women's single category.
    Nozomi vs Saina NEHWAL
    H2H :0 :3
I definitely hope Nozomi can end Saina unbeaten record here. Vote for Nozomi here!

TAI Tzu Ying VS WANG Yihan
    H2H : 4: 2
With Tty winning the latest past 3 encounter. I hope she can continue her winning record against WYH in this open. Bt a close call for this game. Tty FTW

    LI Xuerui VS SUNG Jihyun
    H2H : 10:1
Will expect LXR to win and reserve a slot for herself in the semi final. Sung seem to be struggle in this China Open.

    WANG Shixian vs*Carolina MARIN
    H2H : 3 :4
On paper Carolina seem to be able to win it. Definitely hope to see Wang Shixian can become the winner of this GAME and make it to the semi final. A 35-65 game in this.. hope can see a unexpected result for this.

last BT nt least hope japan MD Endo and hayakawa can win their first MD superseries open as it seem Their best chance already...

If HY beats LD, LCW will progress.

If LD beats HY, JOJ will progress.

I think it's no good for either Lin Dan or Lee CW to avoid each other too often, they have to test each other out once in a blue moon to avoid surprises on the big occasions. Furthermore, LCW is back to fine form, if LD doesn't step up his game, the outcome is not as clear cut as most would expect.

If I were LCW, this is the best time to play LD, a victory, even if LD is nowhere near his best, will be a huge psychological boost. As for LD, it's better for him to find out how good LCW is at or near his best in his present age, the better to prepare for their future important encounters.
