First of all, congrats to the new silver medallists of 2019, who made it to the finals of the BWF World Championships. I think making it to the finals should allow for them to be more confident in themselves, and hopefully win more BWF World Tour titles.

I like them for their dare-to-challenge attitude against established names. I think they'll surpass their Tonami seniors in terms of performance soon.

I have to say congratulation to them. Their play was impressive. They can score some winners and defends very well against Ahsan/Hendra. They simply lose to the better pair. No shame in losing to the legendary daddies. If they can continue to improve, they can take over Endo/Watanabe as JPN MD2 and have a real shot at qualifying to OG Tokyo. Just hope that they don't end up like Inoue/Kaneko, who fell from the top 10.

Who are their Tonami seniors? Kamura/Sonoda?

I think so. Kamura and Sonoda are both 29 (turning 30 in february).

they have yet to peak. it'll be even more exciting once they do. they succumbed to nerves in the 2nd half of game 3, which is normal for a young pair. again, their best is yet to come.
frankly i think it'll be kamoda & endonabe fighting it out for #2 towards the end of og qualifying. kamoda is entering their ageing out point. you can notice it in the efficacy of sonoda's smashes.
inoue/kaneko are steady skilled players but neither of them possess any type of weapon that could swing a game in their favor. they're from the same age pool as hokbayashi but hokbayashi are improving faster and have a higher upside as they just showed the world.

This pair should go far. This year they did defeated many top pairs causing upset in the SS. I remember one match they defeated Zhang nan / LC. and hoki didn't shake hand with Zhang nan after the match . The Japanese protesting a call that Zhang nan touches the shuttle but umpire awarded the point to the Chinese. Indeed Zhang nan touches the shuttle and hoki upset over ZN ungentlemanly conduct.

Technically ZN didn't touch the shuttle, but it was the shuttle that touched ZN.

Yes. Whatever it is. They didn't shake hands and seeing ZN having the guilty look.

Very ungentlemanly to not shake hands after the match, no?

If a player is blantantly cheating, being very unsportsmanlike or being disrespectful then in my opinion they don't deserve the respect of their opponent(s). Yeah...there's quite a few players that fit into that category in my mind

In the case in question with ZN, he obviously knew the shuttle hit him but just ignores the Japanese pairs claims and shamefully slinks away. Of course the poor umpiring is to blame too, but I've seen ZN be a bad sport in other matches, this kind of situation isn't just a one off with him. So I can completely understand why Hoki acted that way.

    Point in question:

They do make use of their left right combination very well. Many pairs don't really know how to play against them. Gotta thank Jeremy Gan for guiding them so well.

It's actually Tan Kim Her. Jeremy Gan coaches the Mixed Doubles.

Yep. He's the nervy one of the pair. Sometimes his smashes are so wild they almost hit the red carpet!
