    Sung Ji Hyun

    Little has been mentioned about young Sung Ji Hyun at Badminton Central.

    Let's start a thread for her. :):):)

    Her BIG achievement was when she defeated Zhou Mi (World No.1) at the 2009 Macau Open.

    Badzine has just released an article on her: click HERE

    ====== * ====== * ====== extract from article ====== * ====== * ======

    In recent years, one name has stood out among Korea’s perennially strong ranks of junior hopefuls. Oddly, even before Sung Ji Hyun made her mark internationally last summer by beating world #1 Zhou Mi in Macau, hers was already a household name here in Korea.
    ............

    Sung Ji Hyun is the daughter of one of Korea’s most famous badminton couples. Her mother, Kim Yun Ja, was the last player to win All England titles in both singles and doubles and now is the head coach at the Korea National University of Physical Education. Her father, Sung Han Kook, was Korea’s first men’s singles star and after winning bronze at the Asian Games and the All England, he became coach of the national team.
    ............

    The first time Sung Ji Hyun faced a top international opponent was when she played Pi Hongyan at home at last year’s (2009) Korea Open. She managed only a single point in the first game. However, after beating Zhou Mi in August, Sung also had a rematch with Pi at the Hong Kong Open and showed how far she had progressed, stretching the French veteran to three games and losing only 19-21 in the decider.

    ====== * ====== * ====== * ====== * ====== * ======

    Let's hope to see Sung Ji Hyun rising to the top ASAP.

    Cheers... chris-ccc

    Yeah, Korea has some promising WS player like Bae Seung Hee, Kim Moon Hi, Bae Youn Joo, Sung Ji Hyun. Maybe one of them will follow Bang Soo Hyun success in future...

    But, Bae Seung Hee, I think she is not very young already, 26 or 27. Between, where is Bae Youn Joo? I do not see her in action recently.

    Yes, Bae Seung Hee turned 26 in September.

    Bae Youn Joo is back on the national team after her roll of 3 wins in the fall - Singapore, Hwasun, and the Nationals. There has been lots to read about her on Badzine recently, including this one. All four of the players Clely mentioned will feature in the Korea Open (along with plenty of others) and Bae, Bae, and Sung will be in the Malaysia Open.

    2010 Korean Open SS Round 1: Sung Ji Hyun defeated experienced Eriko Hirose

    .
    At the 2010 Korean Open SS Round 1:
    Ji Hyun SUNG[IMG][KOR] defeated [IMG][JPN] Eriko HIROSE 22-20, 21-13 in 41 mins.

    In Round 2, Sung Ji Hyun will be facing Tine Rasmussen, the No.1 seed.
    Can Sung Ji Hyun do it? It would be a very tough match for Sung Ji Hyun to win.

    Last year and recently Tine has not showed good performance while SJH improved a lot so as to beat PH in the last November. Moreover, her mom is a professor of Sports University and her dad is the head coach, all veteran in badminton and I think they should have good information and analysis against Tine, whose skills have been quite well exposed in public.

    So, SJH has a good chance to beat Tine in her home ground. It will be a kind of battle between a rising rookie vs. an experienced veteran.

    :)

    In the graphs, I would rather focus on her spirit to consistently follow Tine even when she was trailing. When she got the momentum she had just finished it off. Her mom is an expert of Sports Psychology that might have influenced her mental strength.
