    My Picks

    Chen Hong (CHN)
He's no 1, so, as a norm, we pick world No 1s to win. :)

    Shon Seung Mo (KOR)
He's been popping up a lot of late, so I'm giving him some support!

    Wong Choon Hann (MAS)
I support my fellow countrymen although this is going to be one toughie. He has to keep the matchwinning momentum. I'd say the game will be close.

    Lin Dan (DEN)
His performance at the friendly should get him through.

    Lee Tsuen Seng (MAS)
My fellow countrymen again. No questions.

    Xia Xuanze (CHN)
The current world champion, who'd bet against him? I don't know this Mahardi Wimpie, but I doubt he'd be good enough to go against Xia. Whitewash.

    Lee Hyun Il (KOR)
I don't know Kaldau, so I'd pick the Korean.

    Peter Gade (DEN)
He must be full of revenge now after his defeat in the first round by Sony. He may not be back to 100% fitness yet but I think he should edge it through Rasmussen.

wow. what excellent matches coming up.

i think Wong / Bao match will be very exciting. i still cannot decide whom will end up the winner. Bao has showed some maturity in the WC and he certainly won't be easy meat for Wong.

Chen Yu vs. Lee TS - Chen beat Lee in the friendly. Lee will be there for the revenge. but i don't know if he'd be able to pull that one off.

Wimpie? that's a terrible name to have..

Peter vs. Peter - a rematch of the USOpen 2002 final. PeterG showed very good form then right after recovery from knee injury. i think PeterG should be able to beat PeterR.

Firstly I agree with Matt there are some brilliant games listed there, some questions though, why is Ronald listed as INA? He was Singaporean last I looked (I can't check worldbadminton due to proxy problems).

    Who should win:
    1. Chen Hong

    2. This should be quite a good match by two of the youngish stars of world badminton. Both very fast, I'm not really a fan of Ronald, dunno why I've just never liked him, also I think Shon will win.

    3. Wong v Bao, great match, both tall, fast, talented. Wong more experienced and level headed, Bao probably has a more complete game, faster and younger, my money on Bao.

    4. Anders v Lin, Lin is ridiculously talented and fast, should beat Anders.

    5. Lee v Chen Yu, can't comment ain't seen them enough.

    6. Mahardi v Xia, ain't seen Mahardi, means that Xia should win.

    7. Lee HI v Neils, Lee should win easily

    8. Peter v Peter, not game to comment.

I agree with all Pecheur's bets, plus,
I bet Chen Yu can do it again as he did it a few days ago in the friendly.

Chen Hong (CHN) vs Yohan Hadikus Wiratama (INA)
Chen Hong definitely. Yohan just isn't in the same league.

Wong Choon Hann (MAS) vs Bao Chun Lai (CHN)
Wong played a pretty even match against my copatriot Wengberg, which must mean that Wong played terribly... :p I think Bao wins.

Anders Boesen (DEN) vs Lin Dan (CHN)
Anders has incredible endurance, but I don't think that will help him against Lin Dan.

Mahardi Wimpie (INA) vs Xia Xuanze (CHN)
    Mahardi who?

Lee Hyun Il (KOR) vs Niels Christian Kaldau (DEN)
    Lee should win this.

Peter Rasmussen (DEN) vs Peter Gade Christensen (DEN)
I predicted that Jonassen would beat Gade, but Gade won comfortably. Rasmussen on the other hand, had a surprisingly tough match against Indra Wijaya. Unless Rasmussen finds his flow Gade should win this in two straight games.

Ha Ha, Maha Who? wimpie just beat Xia by default!

And Wong was thrashed in st sets by Bao, Bao must be trying to prove a point.

and Sang/Zheng beat Fu and Cai, is that surprising ?

Probably wants Sang/Zheng to gain more ranking poitns.

Disappointed to know that Wong went down so badly. Still cannot get to the website.

Now, Lee TS is Malaysia's last hope.
Would have been great if Ong EH managed to beat the world champion yesterday. Otherwise, he would have been Malaysia's best bet for a place in last 8.

    Wow Bao

Everyone thought it would be a close fight between Wong and Boa but Boa trashed Wong just like Taufik in WC. Sad to see Wong lost but then it's nice to see new matchup in deeper round then the same old faces. The biggest dissapointment is Chan/Chew, Yap's seat is getting hotter as recall voices are louder.

Ouch, 15-2, 15-8 in 35 minutes was a heavy thrashing handed to Wong by Bao!

Did Anders Boesen retire against Lin Dan due to injury or just gave up as he was down 12-1?

Upper half of MS is dominated by China. Chen Hong does not have to face Shong Sheung Mo again as he was ousted by home favorite Ronald S.

Last, and most importantly, why in the haystacks did Xia Xuanze withdraw? Injury, emergency????

I think it's because of of ankle injury. I was there for the match between him and ong ewe hock and towards the later part of the 3rd game he was limping...eventually after the game he had to put ice bag on his ankle and needed his teammates to help him walked back to the rest room.

oh dear, all Malaysians out except Choong/Lee. the Malaysian press is going to have a fieldtrip on this.

but from Choong/Lee's point of view, it is time for them to prove their worth. they have been seen as the outgoing pair but now they are the sole survivor.

Yap is indeed in trouble imho. i think we will see Cheah taking over his role soon.
