Just heard there’s going to be 21 day quarantine in dedicated facilities for travellers from high risk countries.

Group size to be reduced to 5

Gyms and fitness studios to be closed.

Not exactly sure yet which countries are called high risk - seems to be most countries except Australia, Brunei, China, NZ, Taiwan, HK and Macau

Really depends if Malaysia is on that list. Considering most will be spending 1 week quarantine in Malaysia + 1 week tournament, I think Singapore should be fine with that. Just need to arrive in Malaysia by a certain date.

the breaking point is transportation. how are you getting from malaysia to singapore? are you still considered in a quarantined environment while in a bus/car/plane?

i doubt players are travelling axelsen style... https://360badminton.com/news/viktor-axelsen-airlifted-from-quarantine-in-ukraine-on-a-private-jet/

For Singapore, the requirement is which country you were in the past 14 days (as of Apr 27th prospectus update). It doesn't state you must quarantine in another country, but you must be in a country that's not considered high risk, then you are allowed to travel to Singapore.

I don’t think Malaysia Open 2021 will go ahead.

Players had better make plans to go early to Singapore securing training facilities, train before the competition and then play.

Race To Tokyo meets finish line as SGP Open is cancelled (as predicted).

    Singapore Open 2021 Cancelled

    TEXT BY BWF STAFF
    https://bwfworldtour.bwfbadminton.com/news-single/2021/05/12/singapore-open-2021-cancelled/

Tournament organisers Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) and Badminton World Federation (BWF) have jointly agreed to cancel the Singapore Open 2021 scheduled for 1 – 6 June 2021.

All attempts were made by the organisers and BWF to provide a safe tournament environment for all participants. However, rising COVID-19 cases globally led to complex challenges in managing inbound travel. Thus, in the interests of all players, tournament personnel and the local community’s health and safety, the event has been cancelled.

BWF can confirm the tournament will not be rescheduled.

The Singapore Open 2021 is a Super 500 event on the HSBC BWF World Tour and was the last tournament offering Race To Tokyo ranking points inside the Olympic qualifying window.

BWF will issue a further statement on Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualifying at a later date.

    ______

*15th June 2021, Race To Tokyo Ranking List is published

Hope BWF can schedule one or two tournaments in europe, not just for qualifying hopefuls but also so players can get some practice and we can have quality olympic matches and not erratic and substandard matches. May be hard to do this also atm.

Now Singapore Open is canceled. No more tournaments that counts for Olympics costing Asian countries to lose chances.

Such a nice idea, none of 2021 RTT-bound tournaments that take place in Asia proceed due to strict quarantine regulation and new cases surge rapidly.

IOC is very firm to state Tokyo OG fate => It's 2021 or cancellation, no more postponements.
