Singapore Open 2012 SS - Final

How wonderful to see 30-year-old Boonsak winning his second SS title, coincidentally in Singapore, his first being five years ago. Always a favorite with the crowd, we wish this unassuming, humble and shy 'veteran' all the best in his fourth appearance at the Olympics.

It seems all five winners here represent different nations - a repeat of the INA Open last week. It does augur well for badminton it would seem.
 
I'm very happy for Boonsak! This might be his last ever chance for a title, and he sensed it and went all out, diving everywhere.
 
The LNSBO 2012 finals were a gem to watch with winnings by 5 different nationalities just like the DIBO 2012 last week.

With the exception of the WD match which was won by the young Chinese pair of Bao Yixin/Zhong Qianxin, the winners of the other 4 matches were 'veterans' of badminton.
JS and BP deserved their wins after their hectic 2-game tussels in the semi-finals.
The commentator was worried that they could not last the pace against the fresher opponents.
BP used his experience and delaying tactics with 2 medical time out and a lucky wrong line call to beat WZM who is a future champion in the making.

MK/HS were just splendid demolishing KSH/YYS in the rubber game 21-6 after a drubbing in the 2nd game of 11-21.

Also it's funny to see why foreign players tend to do well in netshots than the Chinese players.

Strange indeed. Isn't that what separates Class A players from the rest?

Some people just can't miss an opportunity to trash Chinese players. Logic and sense be damned.
 
Oh, he is a familiar face from INA - a crowd puller.

I see he has a different costume this time but the colors of INA are unmistakable. A creative talent that value adds to the celebrations of the event. Unfortunately his 'colleagues' from MAS and THA were not present to provide interesting rivalry as in previous years.

It was an opportunity missed by the THA emissary who normally came with musical instruments accompanied by his 'entourage of followers' to make a song and dance of their presence as this year is a special year when THA in the person of Boonsak took the MS gold!

Unfortunately I was absent at the finals but I did watch the proceedings on TV in the comfort of my living room.

Good thing CWH managed to grab at least one title even after some horrendous services. She had played about twice the number of matches as both her partners CHL and CYC, as well as her XD opponents in the final. The Taiwanese association is going to have difficulties finding a replacement after she retires.
Podium déjà vu for Boonsak. Kudos to him, after he proves everyone wrong again. Almost everyone, not counting his fanatical fans.
 
Was surprised to see Boonsak winning after WZM's dominating display against Axelsen. Seems like a few Thai players rounding into form ahead of the OG–Boonsak, Sudket, Saralee. More concerned for Rat as she seems to have levelled off.
 
Interesting facts : in last 2 SS event still missed these supposedly strong countries in winners circles (Den, Mas, Kor and Jpn) while Ina and Tha who seldom to get a title in SS event snatched 2 victories in last 2 SS...let alone to India and Germany..
 
Happy for CWH to win a title. Mind you Shintaro/Reiko can hardly be termed formidable. But still you have to defeat the opponents in front of you. If she could only serve.
