Seems like the rumors were true then. Since the incident happened in October 2021 we might see him back in action later this year. Let's hope he can use the time to get a hold of his physical struggles.
Also still convinced that the punishment would have been nowhere as bad if any other player had stood on the other side of the court in place of Momota...
Zhang Jun probably referred to SYQ’s post-match interview. Let’s face it, retiring at match point was quite an outrageous thing to do. We could argue if 1-year ban was appropriate, but I’m glad CBA reacted. This sets a good example for future players.
D*ck move and unsportsmanlike but imo the behavior European, especially Danish, players have shoem over the last few years has been worse. Only legimate reason IMHO being not following his coaches' advice to finish the match and the post game interview which he should have answered using the usual standard phrases
Discipline creates strength, in China, badminton coaches and associations always have their own authority. Unlike Malaysia, where the association is afraid of Lee Zii Jia If any player disobey the association, It will be a domino effect and cause the others to disobey too. Momota was also banned, he's the number 1 of the team but he can't be out of the rules
Shu Yuqi was also playing for the country in that match. When you play for China, it’s ok to lose but don’t let China lose face. Let’s hope Shu Yuqi really does get a second chance if he’s still a world top ten player standard.
What is he talking?. I mean zhang Jun. If you post a translated script of what he spoke, then everybody could understand.
Not much reading the news. He said, SYQ was suspended for a year for: - retiring at match point - inappropriate comments after the match the rest was standard encouraging words looking forward for SYQ’s eventual returning as a stronger player.
Most cases in the video were umpires making bad calls (and honestly some were pretty close and hard decision to make in a split second). Some were weird bugs from hawkeye - I think we see less of these these days. Not sure if players' behavior was really to blame. The title "Dirty plays" is also misleading. In my opinion, the worst incident in the history of badminton was when the two Thai players ran around and hit each other on court. SYQ's and others' cases were pretty much incomparable to that. But SYQ's inappropriate action to me should still be ranked at the top compared to other small incidents like in the video, especially when taken the comments he made after the match in consideration.
Still i think one year is too harsh. It has been over half a year now, he missed all England, Asia championship etc already. Everyone have moved on. He should be allowed in the Thomas cup squad, like a team without chen long and SYQ stands almost no chance barring a huge upset
Would rank the antics which KSS or Boe have shown on many more occasions higher than that f.e. The Danish WD who were faulted by the service judge continuously and taking their frustration onto the service judge, Christansen/Boje entering a screaming battle against another European (french?) are also high in my list. Some on court behavior by Carolina Marin or Wang Shixian, time wasting (Korean WD comes to my mind), the London WD scandal... Lin Dan has also his share of bad sportsmenship moments and lacking respect on court... Or KimGJ/KimSR who won in the Asian games team event due to an completely and obviously wrong call by the umpire (although I don't blame them as much as the umpire). Just the things that came to my mind in the last few minutes and many of these worse than what SYQ did imo...
Do you shout and celebrate when you've committed a fault? Because that's what the players in the video are doing and why they're called dirty plays.
I wonder if he will do well in the world championship. Hard to tell since we haven’t seen him in for so long.
