Well, usually Lilyana covered Nova when he was not in good perform. However, I saw Lilyana also not in the best performance recently. In last tournaments, Chinese Taipei GP, she lost in both tournaments, XD and WD, and she made many unforced error. I think she must concerntration only in one sector, XD or WD. Gao Ling sometimes break to play XD and only concern in WD.....Otherwise, THai pair also good pair, Nova/Lilyana sometimes lost with them.

It's always tough playing a top 10 pair in the first round. When Nova is not playing well, they can lose to any pairs: see the World Championships 2006 (when they lost in R16 to Koo Kien Keat/Wong Pei Tty) and the All-England 2007 (when they lost also in R16 to David Lindley/Suzanne Rayappan).

Yesterday's loss was their worst performance in any tournaments for the past 2 years

    ZYW/WYL's LOSS... Remember!

It means doubtfully in this context.:)

Every player including Nova/Lilyana, has ups and downs. Yesterday was just not their day.

Hope the World Champs will bounce back, they are the only ones capable of wiping Gao Ling's smile, sometimes, that is.

Or for continuity, the coaches might consider breaking up this formation in future, say Nova back with Vita and Lilyana with another (younger) partner. This, I think, should be done after the Olympics. Cos I am not sure how long Flandy Limpele is going to play. Evergreen and hardworking as he is, Flandy doesn't have sufficient endurance and power anymore. Hearbreaking to see him lose after a very hard battle in WC semis last August.

Sadly and somewhat surprisingly, Nova/Butet remains the only pair who has beaten Zheng Bo/Gao Ling, twice.

Nova and Flandy should retire after the Olympics. This will free up Butet to partner either Lingga Lie or Mohd Rijal (they try to test this combination out at the Macau Open but was withdrawn).

Vita can then concentrate on WD with Butet.
