Badminton: No joy for Roslin Chun
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Mohd Roslin Hashim muffed a chance to win his first international title in six years when he lost to unseeded Indonesian youngster Ari Yuli Wahyu in the men’s singles semi-finals of the Vietnam International Challenge in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday.
However, there will still be a Malaysian representative in the final today. Project 2010-2012 player Tan Chun Seang (pic) kept the Malaysian interest alive by beating teammate Chan Kwong Beng 21-13, 14-21, 21-12 in the other semi-final.
Roslin, who was given a wild card to compete in the World Championships in August this year, ran out of steam and lost 19-21, 21-17, 12-21.
For 20-year-old Chun Seang, it will be his first final appearance in an international Open event. Chun Seang had made it to the last four with a hard-fought 12-21, 21-17, 26-24 win over defending champion Nguyen Tien Minh on Friday.
Kwong Beng also did well to beat national back-up player K. Yogendran 21-17, 21-14 and compatriot Teo Kok Siang 21-9, 21-13 in the third round and quarter-finals respectively.
For Roslin, it was a disappointing end to his campaign. He had sent New Zealand Open champion Andre Kurniawan of Indonesia packing with a 13-21, 21-8, 21-14 win in the third round.
He went on to qualify for the semi-finals by beating compatriot Chong Wei Feng 21-11, 21-15.
Malaysian interest in the men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles ended at the semi-final stage yesterday.
    The women’s doubles pair of Woon Khe Wei-Wei-Goh Liu Ying lost to Indonesia’s C.J. Yulianti-Dili Puspita 17-21, 21-9, 12-21.
The mixed doubles pair of Lim Khim Wah-Ng Hui Lin also failed to clear another Indonesian hurdle. They lost 15-21, 17-21 to Trikus Heryanto-Yunite Tetty.
The men’s doubles pair of Azrihanif Azahar-Goh Ying Jin went down 9-21, 14-21 to South Korea’s Yoo Yeon-seong-Cho Gun-woo.

And not to forget, WINNER's prize compensation of Singapore Open and Indonesian Open Super Series from BAM.
Good job Roslin! You could not even win Grand Prix tournaments where you're the TOP SEED. Two now, how about making it 3 next week in Cheers Asian Satelite where you're the TOP SEED again?:D

BAM should give the spot to Tan CHun Seang to be honest....at least it would give him some chance to compete....

The more experienced Tracey Hallam saw off Maria Elfira Christina's challenge 21-15, 21-15. So, it will not be a sweep after all.

I hope Tantowi/Yulianti win again to further establish themselves as the XD pair of the future.

Vietnam Challenge is a little bit special. They have two courts for Final matches.

The youngsters appear lost in the first set, with Trikus/Yunita having a big lead now.

Tantowi/Yulianti only started to wake up late in the set, when they were 10-20 down to make it up to 15-20, only to lose 15-21.

The second set was tighter until the moment when Tantowi/Yulianti were leading 14-12. Then, they made lots of mistakes and Trikus's smashes were still lethal and the veteran club pair Tri Kusharyanto/Yunita Tetty takes the gold after a 21-15, 21-17 victory over the junior Pelatnas pair.

    What a disappointment....
