Hmm pardon, but I didn't talk about endorsements advertisements and the likes. Yonex isn't a badminton club which Lin Dan plays for, is it? Dunno if he has a club or not. On the other hand VakifBank is a volleyball club located in Istanbul. Zhu Ting has signed a one-year contract (2016/2017 season) for €1.1M bonus not included. Perhaps the biggest volleyball transfer in 2016 Pogba in football, Zhu Ting in volleyball.

Finally I got to see her play a couple of matches on Youtube. Pretty indeed. As a player she is fast and powerful and can even dive to make saves. She can also jump so high from a standing takeoff to spike the ball down. If only she and Sun Yu had interchanged the sports they chose as young girls. But as Kelana said volleyball is more prestigious in China and volleyball players can certainly earn a lot more than badminton players. Can a top flight badminton player, male or female, earn 1.1 M Euro in one season not including bonuses like Zhu Ting? Sigh! Not saying that Sun Yu is not good. She can still make it if she works hard. Just that I find this pretty girl's movement on court is more fluid and less clumsy.
Agreed! Volleyball is more prestigious in China because of better organized league and TV ratings (probably due to all these pretty girls). It's too bad that, after all these years, Chinese Badminton League still has not taken off.
Exactly! One major cause of the problem. The league is badly organised. I cannot follow it though I'm a fan of badminton and of Chinese badminton players. Because of lack of clarity and general clumsiness, I just dropped all attention to it.
I don't think there's a volleyball league in China. The CHN women's volleyball achievement at the Rio Olympics epitomises a kind of spirit, sheer tenacity, overcoming adversity, indomitable will, esprit de corps, invigorating, energising, rejuvenating, uplifting. After waiting 12 long years and first losing to SBR in the pool stage 0-3 before overcoming BRA in the QFs, NED in the SFs and finally avenging their defeat on SBR 3-1 for the gold medal, the CHN women's volleyball team inspired the entire nation with their never-say-die spirit to unite all Chinese people, including HKSAR, transported with joy at the very moment of final victory as seen on TV and the Internet.
