One of the greatest news in Malaysia badminton arena! Yes, no joke, Rexy Mainaky have been awarded Malaysia PR status! http://www.skthew.com/2007/07/27/badminton-rexy-mainaky-awarded-pr-status/ Cheers guys!
this just goes on to show how much politics is involved in BAM. im sure someone on the board knew someone in this other place and said some stuff and the guy processed it right away. a sri lankan or bangladeshi worker who has 3 young kids who need food and clothing, struggling to find work in his home country applies for PR in malaysia but it's been 2years now but it is still being 'processed'.
Which means that it is even harder for PBSI to entice him back. Rexy has a reason to stay longer in Malaysia now and if his charges perform above expectations, he can say bye bye to Indonesia, at least for some time to come. So INA has to do something much better if they want Rexy back!
Even PBSI has been consistently lure Rexy back.. but Rexy remained firm that he wants to stay in Malaysia.
that's so malaysian...did Rexy ask for PR in the first place? anyway, glad that Rexy chooses Malaysia.
yup.. he renewed his contract not long ago around the SC tat time.. besides MAS PR he also got Bristish PR
Many countries do confer honorary citizenship or permanent residence status to people who are deemed to have made valuable contributions in sports, business, education, etc., etc. As a matter of fact Singapore just conferred an honorary citizenship award to the outgoing chairman of Exxon for his contribtion to Singapore business. If Rexy is given or awarded PR status this is a greater honour than getting it through the normal immigration application procedure. I don't think it is fair to compare Rexy's case with another working immigrant's case, because honorary prs or citizenships are awarded for valuable services of national importance. It is like a spike in evolution when you get a new positive gene that kickstarts your tribe's evolutionery journey. This is much better than to have a recessive gene that sets into your tribe's gene pool and takes you backwards.
PR does not prevent Rexy from leaving. As long as his wife wants to stay in Malaysia Rexy will continue to comply even his contract expires.
here is the write up. Rexy, Family Get Malaysian PR Status PUTRAJAYA, July 27 (Bernama) -- National badminton doubles coach Rexy Mainaky, who almost single-handedly resurrected the supremacy of the country's doubles pairs in the international arena, and his family members were Friday given the Malaysian permanent resident (PR) status by the government. The 39-year-old Indonesian, who was once World Badminton doubles champions with Ricky Subagja, two years ago started coaching the Malaysian doubles pairs who went on to win numerous titles in the world of badminton. He received his MyPR card from Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad in a simple ceremony here. Present was Badminton Association of Malaysia president Datuk Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh. Rexy told reporters later that the PR status came as a "surprise" and that he was indebted to the nation. "I had at one stage denied Malaysia from winning the men's doubles title at the Olympics but now my target is to ensure Malaysia wins the title. We would start by winning the World Championships (to be held in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 13-19)," he said. In 1996, Rexy and Ricky won the men's doubles title for Indonesia after defeating the Malaysian pair of Cheah Soon Kit and Yap Kim Hock, who is now the national chief coach, at the Atlanta Olympics. Rexy moved into the coaching arena upon retiring and is now considered a hot property for coaching doubles teams after he was able to prove time and again that he could turn mediocre national players into world beaters. On the upcoming World Championships, he said Malaysian doubles teams stood a good chance of bagging the title provided they were not hampered by injury woes. Meanwhile, Nadzmi said he was confident that Rexy would be able to take the national men's doubles teams to greater heights, especially after obtaining the PR status. "What we want now is the support from the fans. Since the World Championships are being held here, it would be good if we have our own supporters to cheer our boys. "We've never been champions so far in this tournament and I hope this time around we would win the doubles title," he added. -- BERNAMA

Agreed with u .. He is a family man.. However i am really wondering how long he will remained here withe the MAS team. He already gained a PR status in Egnland but he quit the Eng Team eventually after receiving the offers frm MAS. I wont be surprise he will quit MAS team any time even he is the PR there
