I know for singles (MS or WS) what the qualification rule is if there are 4 single players (from a single country) occupying all top 4 spots. The national team can choose which 3 of the 4 players can participate in the Olympics...

However, for doubles, is it true that for a country to be able to choose 2 pairs among 3 pairs, all 3 pairs must be in top 3 spots in world ranking??

with the 'free' spots for Africa, America and host etc, it's likely that players needed to be top 12 to be sure for qualifications.

only 2 pairs max can be qualified (with both in top 8) per nation.
let say 1 nation with players ranked at 1, 9 and 10. only 1 will be qualified and it's up their nation to decide which pair to enter.
or, with 3 pairs at 5, 7 and 11 then they can enter 2 from the 3.

What I am worried about is: Some independent Badminton players could not participate

    .
BWF is always allowing their National Associations to decide. :(:(:(

I hope that one day BWF would not allow their National Associations to decide; but to just allow players who have qualified (according to the qualifications rules) to participate in the Olympic Games.

What I am worried about is that some independent Badminton players (not part of any National Associations) could be left out.:eek::eek:

    AlanY, thanks...

But what if the 3 pairs are ranked 2, 3 and 9.... I had a look at the following link, i think the no. 9 ranked pairs are not even qualified.. hence they are not even eligible for selection.

No problem. If 1, 9 and 10, then only No.1 would qualify...
