Right, Ronald Susilo's feat is even more remarkable than LKY's as Lin Dan at that time was relatively much younger in the early years of his career at age 21 during the Athens Olympics, not experienced enough and , to use Susilo's words 'Lin was "too eager to win"'. But, as we all know, that's not the end of the story, far from it, for what followed is the stuff that legends are made of - Ronald Susilo despite his sensational win did not go on to greater heights or achieved anything that one should expect of him following such a brilliant success; in fact, he didn't make it to the final but was stopped by Boonsak Ponsana in the quarterfinals. On the other hand, what happened to Lin Dan after that near career-ending debacle? It'd be superfluous for me to elucidate.
Ronald did the right thing by stopping him, otherwise he would have set a "record" by winning 3 Olympic MS golds (?), not that other badminton players have not won 3 badminton golds before.
Yeah, or otherwise Lin Dan couldn't even have won any gold medals at all. Without that loss, his hot head and temper could have lost him too many gold medal chances and this world would never have known a superb being called Super Dan 4 years after. Well personally I like this present aging and struggling Lin Dan more so I will wish him all the best.
When someone step on the court, he/she can win or lose whatever he/she was I'm bored to hear: aged, aged and aged again when Lin Dan loses. As I used to say, if you want to take gold medal in Tokyo Olympic, you must be able to beat anyone on the court. If you think you were old, then retire. It's really not fair. When Lin Dan wins, it's because he is GOAT, but when he loses, it's because of AGE. IT IS NOT FAIR for young players. so retire. C'mon! Lin Dan is still "known a superb being called Super Dan 4 years after" if he retires now
Well, he is aged, weaker and slower than he was, that's a fact not an excuse. Why should he retire? He still can use his legs, swing his racket, play like a slowpoke, make money and win matches. He didn't seem to care what people call him or whatever status ("Super Dan" ,"GOAT" or "First Round Dan") people give him. He just wants to play badminton and to realize his dream. It's not fair that he should retire just because people say so or because he is no longer the player he was. Many players are worse than him, shouldn't you ask them to retire too?
No one should have any rights to tell the athlete to just retire. It is completely the player's choice to retire or not. Just respect whatever the athlete's choice.
Don't know why some people want to talk down on both LD or LKY. Both are playing better than last year obviously and yet quite a few negative comments. Can you play better than them? If not STFU. Not even half their ability and can only be key board warrior like the pesty flies that keep flying around the head. Should be thankful that it is close enough to be entertaining and not totally one sided.
