    Grap this opportunity

Now that Taufik is gone and no Chinese players participating, no more excuse for Malaysia player not to take the MS title. Lee Chong Wei need this one badly to proof he's more than a good player. Anything below gold medal is considered a failure in my opinion under such circumstance.

On the other hand, that doesn't mean LCW is a nobody when Taufik or Chinese players are around. LCW doesn't need to win this title to prove that he is a good player. His long standing ranking already proved that he is among the current top players. And Bao still have no idea how to beat him yet.

Likewise, what do you have to say about Taufik? Is Taufik not a good player since he just lost to Simon? Do you think Taufik has a good excuse to lost in the 2nd round?

I just hope that LCW can handle the pressure from such PEOPLES' EXPECTATIONS.

sorry to jump and reply to your post..

*personally* what Taufik said to the media/public, "as the reason" why he lost to Simon in the 2nd round, is probably different than what he really felt/meant.
I can attest that, esp. in the recent WC, where during a press conference a reporter asked him about his recent lost to LCW in the MO, also in the *2nd round*. And Taufik mentioned "the back injury bothered him. But he also would like LCW to win in front of his fans and his hometown".
Many reasons, but only the players, themselves know..

    No more excuse please

Taufik is a World and Olympic champions, he is more than a very good player so even if Taufik slump the rest of his career from now on he's still a great player in my book. I understand there are up and down for players but Malaysia players have more downs than ups and you think is becasue of pressure from people expectation? Be real, Malaysia players are just spoil and not desperate enough when come to winning.
If Taufik and Chinese players still around then the excuse is very hard to beat them to win the title and when they are not around then is the high expectation pressure cause by people/fan like me
I hope Li Mau demand is higher than that.

    Wait a minute....
Many people here *speculate* that Taufik lost to Simon on purpose, to lift Simon ranks etc, etc. I did not buy that... but reading your post make me wonder. Could it be true?!?

At the very top level, the most important factor is motivation. Having reached the peak where no man has ever gone before, Taufit's motivation is unlikely to even come near the level that drove him to such great heights winning the Olympics and the World Championship.
Simon's motivation was greater than Taufit's for this match. The real danger for Simon is that should he lose badly to his opponents in the next few rounds, he will come crashing down-in the mind. Then it will take another year for him to recover mentally. The mental toll on him was quite devastating when he lost the critical singles match against Denmark in last year's Thomas Cup. He must not be on a roller-coaster cycle. Technical skill and an unsurpassed repertoire of strokes is nothing when the mind is not strong. Such top players need coaches who are great motivators besides the technical side.

    True, true...
That's why i can't acknowledge Simon's upset over Taufik yet as a "sign"..
He has to prove, to himself and us fans, that he indeed deserve the victory and have "grown and changed", according to Taufik. By winning this tournament and going deeper in upcoming tournaments..

I believe Simon(along with Sony) is now coached under Joko. Not saying he is less capable but perhaps Simon going with Mulyo Handoyo will improve his mental game??Mulyo did wonders to Taufik.. :)

    sacrifice.

Agree with the dissapointment on Simon. Still need a couple of years to improve. A bit erratic. However, Taufik shd be congratulated if he really sacrifice it. The thought that since it's IO, most probably another Indonesian will win it. Brotherly love man.....:D Really Nice fella isn't he?
