OUE SINGAPORE Open SS 2015 : QUARTERFINALS (10th April 2015)

Gutted that Leverdez was crushed, as for once he was on a TV court :P

Good results for Indonesian doubles though, they're a force to be reckoned with now with several top-level pairs.

How is the badminton scene in France in general?

Off topic. How can a DC team with Jo-Wilfred, Gael and Gasquet not be as dominant as Spain?? Gael should have had a much, much better career on the pro tour than he ended up having. Such immense talent, yet such meagre returns.

Yes. He has to prove tomorrow against veteran Hu Yun.

He has to prove a lot to everyone that he can contend with his juniors and earn a spot. Plus delivering on a long awaited SS title won't hurt.

Prannoy is very promising but his built worry me. Last year was wasted in injury. Now he is injured again. He seems more like a kabaddi player to me than a badminton player. Hope the injury is not long term (he mentioned that he is asked to rest for 3-4 weeks - so seems like a sprain).

If Simon Santoso wins today's match, he is a probable MS winner IMO.

I was about to say the same for NO but she has already lost to Sun Yu!

Out of BAC then??

Summary of the players performance
Players that qualify to the play in semifinals

1. China (3 women singles, 3 mixed doubles, 2 women doubles, 1 men double).
Therefore it is confirmed that China will certainly be getting 4 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 2 bronze medals tomorrow).
Just hope that in future the China players will not vs each other in the second round and quarterfinals so that we will get to see better quality players. Well, China is still the power house in WS, MX and WD.

2. Indonesia (1 mixed double, 1 men single, 2 men singles)
Indonesia is confirmed of at least 4 bronze medals.

3. Japan (2 women doubles, 1 men double, 1 men single)
Japan is confirmed of at least 4 bronze medals.

4. Hong Kong (1 men single)
Hong Kong is confirmed of at least 1 bronze medal.

5. Taiwan (1 women single)
Taiwan is confirmed of at least 1 bronze medal.

The results have actually shown to us which country is still the power house in badminton thus far. :)

too much nation-oriented for my taste. I would not sum up the day by saying which nation did what, but what upsets or what great performance from this or that one, etc.,.

Just my assumption and I could be wrong - He has a bulky body - gym body. More muscle mass. I am sure his BMI is more too (just by the appearance). More strain on his joints, due to his attacking play. More injuries.

Athletic Malayali men are naturally bulky, genetic probably. Think Vijayan or Youhanan. (Or any athletic Mallu you may have played football with).

The worst is Gasquet. He is recognized as the best talent of his generation, but never trained seriously.

Otherwise there is a big boom for badminton in France, the number of licensed players is increasing steadily since 5 years, but for the pros there is not much to show for. The sport is also not shown or discussed in the media.

she looks really really thin. Too thin? Is that the reason for loss of form?

If she fails to make the Olympic team again, she should try out in Bollywood. I am sure Jwala Gutta can refer her to some production houses. ;):cool:

RI will struggle among the top WS if she don't work on her fitness. Look at CM, LXR, WSX, NO, AY, SN, TZY... these are all her rivals who can fight in 3 games. I'm a fan of RI and hope to see her win more titles, but skill without stamina is no use.

If her upward trajectory continues, soon we will need a female shuttle wielding Serbinator to terminte her in the future......... G:eek:Y

HK is an independent member of the IOC, participating under the name of "Hong Kong, China".

HK is also an independent member of many international organisations, eg, APEC, WTO, and many others.

Taiwan participates under the name of "Chinese Taipei".

Macau also participates independently.

Recently the #1 squash player from France Grégory Gaultier (World #2) was in India. He complained that there is no coverage or recognition for his sport in France. Football take up everything and tennis sweeps the crumbs.

This week's Badminton World showed the sad story of U-19 PanAm Champ Samuel O'Brien Ricketts who lacks the financial resources to travel to tournaments, despite being from a country where the likes of Bolt and Gayle earn tens of millions a year.

More muscle = More Power ??

Just my assumption and I could be wrong - He has a bulky body - gym body. More muscle mass. I am sure his BMI is more too (just by the appearance). More strain on his joints, due to his attacking play. More injuries.

It is tricky issue. Is't it ??

I believe, if one has more muscle mass and gym body then he has to have more force and power translating into quick footwork and punch in his strokes and fiery smash.

On the other hand more muscle mass means, more weight to carry, needing more effort and energy to carry that weight.

I am again not sure whether strong feet, strong leg muscles help in movement in multiple directions needed in badminton (forward-backward, to left- to right, start-stop). Sprinters have very strong leg muscles and they burst into speed, but they always have to run in one straight forward direction.

It's tricky. Do we know other MS players with muscles and gym body to compare. I feel there are few Japanese in this category !!:confused:

Totally unfair to Jan O Jorgensen. Prannoy , instead could have withdrawn at the instant when he got injured during yesterday's match so that jan would have gone to finals.

All lose the ranking points and prize money on offer??

I do not agree with you.

I am not sure when Prannoy got injured. If he was injured before his match against Jan O Jorgensen then in-spite of injury and handicap he defeated Jan O J and he alone deserves to advance to next round.

In any game a player who plays better, performs better deserves to win and advance further. If Jan O is worthy of place in QF then he should have defeated who ever is his opponent injured or fit, Prannoy or someone else.

It is unfortunate for Pronnoy to leave tournament in spite of winning due to injury. And very lucky for Kento Momota to advance to SF without having to play QF. And very fair to Jan O J, he deserves to be eliminated.
