I guess no one is using natural gut anymore. Are syntetic strings really better on everything ? Or is it just because natural gut cant be stringed as hard without braking? (if we dont care about the price) Is there still something natural gut is better on?
Natural gut: - twice the price - sensitive to conditions (sun, sweat) - difficult to string (more sensitive, thick diameter) - can't be strung high - weak durability - not much choice in characteristics (diameter) + good elasticity + good tension retention Synthetic: + depending on string choice half or third the price + can be strung much higher + not so sensitive to conditions except very cold weather, but even then okay + depending on choice better or much better durability + you can choose out of 100+ different strings which different characteristics + easier to string related to diameter - some strings loose there tension and peak performance quickly - depending on string (especially thicker ones) you don't get good elasticity I came once in my life across natural gut (0.75mm) by an old man (dinosaur) who wanted natural gut at 18 lbs on his Boron. I was very close to ask him "Does your 5110 also has whatsapp?"
